Check ink levels in cartridges

Hi,

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

* Inkjet printer

* Inkjet cartridges

Check the back of your computer to make sure that the printer is appropriately connected to the computer and is plugged in. If the printer is not plugged into the computer, find the printer jack on the back of the computer and plug it in before you move on to the next step.

Click on the "Start" menu button which is located on bottom left hand corner of your screen. Click on the "Settings" bar and notice that a list of functions pop up to the left of the settings button. Click on the control panel icon.

Look for the printer/fax icon in the control panel window. Double click on the printer icon.

Find the icon for your printer in the opened window and right click on the icon. Now click on the "Preferences" option.

Look for the menu box pop up with tabs near the top of the box. Click on the "Services" tab.

Click on "Service this device." You will find the button on the Services menu that you just activated.

Click on the estimated ink level tab and a graphic will appear indicating how much ink is left in the cartridge.

I've printed half of my self-designed holiday

Hi,

It sounds to me like the card is going in so far and then slipping in the rollers. If that happens, the ink will keep printing because it still senses the paper. If it continues printing in that one spot, that is probably the reason you are getting the bar.

If it is printing on paper OK, the driver is fine.

Have you set the paper size up as 6.5 X 10?

A couple suggestions:

1) Try cleaning any rollers you can with alcohol to remove any residue that may be building up from the cards. Just don't get any on the ink cartridges or printhead.

2) Try printing one at a time. (I know that is a pain, but sometimes it is the only solution.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for using Fixya.

How do i get to the ink cartrage when i need to

The steps to removing the ink cartridge and replacing it are rather simple. Keep in mind; however, if these steps are not done properly, there are a number of errors that could occur that could keep your printer from printing at all.

The first step is to write down the printer name and brand.

Remove the empty cartridge with care while taking care not to cause any damage to the printer.

If the user already has a replacement cartridge in his possession, then he simply opens the printer's lid while the printer is still on.

Opening the printer's lid when switched on will cause the printer cartridge seats to move into place, allowing the user to remove or reinstall cartridges.

Remove the cartridge with care then replace it with the new cartridge. Close the lid and print a test page.

The one thing to always keep in mind when changing the cartridge is to handle the cartridges with care.

If the user's ink cartridge has a print head, the user must use extra precautions to ensure that no contact is made with it.

If the cartridge has a seal at the bottom, care must be taken not to break the seal.

I just hooked up my hp printer to my Gateway

Please reboot your computer and the 940 too. Check the cable and connectors, are they tight? Make sure the screws are tight on the cable connectors and inspect the pins as it sounds like you use this printer on several computers?

You should reinstall the print drivers and if you have lost the CD you will find the software at the HP site on the left side of the page:http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/us/en/sm/WF13a/18972-18972-236251-14438-236261-35985.html

If the cable is good and the software leaves you with the same problem then I must tell you that this printer is too old to repair. This printer was produced in 2000 and I am not sure about when they stopped making them. It was a great printer but it may be past its prime. You may have a failure in the 940. A new single function HP Printer can be purchased for half the price of trying to find someone to fix this printer. The new HP Printers are much more thrifty when it comes to ink than the 940 and they give much better color results too.

I hope this helps

Acts like it is printing but its not

The ink cartridge is either empty or the print head is clogged. This can happen when the printer has not been used for some time.
The cartridge and/or print head needs replacing.
