Go to the HP web site and type in your model. From there you should be able to download the driver.

no need to download for this printer, already inbuilt driver in Windows Xp,sp1,2,3

This error is not caused by the cartridge, it is either a cable issue or a driver issue. Try reseating the parallel cable on the back of the printer and make sure the cable is securely attached to the parallel port on the computer as well. Also make sure that you are printing with the correct driver.

Since you can print the TEST page, that indicates there is communication between computer and printer.

Each program/software on your computer such as Micro Soft Office and others need to be TOLD to use the specific printer.

Two things to look at:

1. Left click Windows START button
2. Left click Control Panel
3. Look for PRINTERS and select
4. Find your printer and make sure it has a GREEN check mark next to it (Default)
5. Then use one of your programs and try to PRINT
6. May have to tell your program to select AND print to specific printer

Is it printing like that only on Word and Excel? If not you better uninstall the printer driver and reinstall again.. sometimes installed drivers get mess up specialy if we have done some updates or installation in other software.

Is the printer icon greyed out? If no, then you need to open up the printer and select the Printer to see of Offline is checked. Simply click it again to take it Online.

Paper is probably stuck under the fuser, follow these instructions to remove the fuser:

Fusing Assembly Removal and Replacement

1. Remove rear cover:

a.) Extend input extender assembly

b.) Remove three screws

c.) Separate the rear panel from the main cover, pulling the lower corners away from the printer first. Then,

insert small flathead screwdriver into the openings at the top upper corners releasing two tabs,

remove cover.

2. Remove EP door assembly

a.) Along the left door hinge there is a flex point, firmly press tab inward to release door.

3. Remove main cover

a.) Remove rear cover

b.) Remove EP door

c.) Remove memory cover

d.) Remove two screws from top of printer

e.) Grasp two lower front corners of printer and pull gently outward, lift cover straight up and off

4. Remove fuser

a.) Remove exit roller (unlock white bushings on either end)

b.) Remove right hand cartridge guide (depress one locking tab and slide forward)

c.) Remove two screws from delivery assembly (fuser cover) and remove

d.) Remove two screws from pressure plate, (metal) unlock two retaining tabs and remove

e.) From right side of printer, remove cable guide, and fuser cable from DC controller
f.) From left side of fuser, remove thermistor cable (white) and remove fuser

select drivers, select printer, select windows7

Your printer supports W7 and the driver is located below. You need to first unplug the printer, uninstall it from the control panel and then restart the computer. Then download your driver and install it. HP printers need the Full Version software, not the just the driver that W7 loads when it discovers it.

Do NOT plug the printer back into the computer until prompted by the software.

This is caused by one of two things. First be sure you have the correct printer driver installed, if you have printed to this printer before on this computer then you should be ok here. The other thing would be that the printer lost communications with the computer and when it reconnected the control codes had been lost. To check this, first power off the computer and the printer. Now check the connections between the two, the computer connection should be screwed tight and the printer connection needs to have both clips fastened. Now power up the computer and printer, try a test print, if it prints then you should be good. If you still get the odd print then replace your printer cable, be sure to get one that is rated IEEE1284. This rating insures proper bidirectional communications between the printer and the computer.

for the converter there exists 2 types.
The 2 types can be distinguished with respect to their pricing.

The one which is more expensive is much more capable of a good conversion.
I met a similar situation in the past, and i solved out the problem by choosing the one which costs more.

The issue could either be in your general printer setup (adjust the scaling % in the printer options) or in the application you are printing (adjust the page setup scaling % or it may possibly have the option to print 1 page high x 1 page wide).

Sounds to me like the pickup roller is shot. These are somewhat easily removable and cheap to replace. However, you can usually eek some additional life out of a pickup roller by cleaning it with rubbing alcohol or even water (no soap, though). Let it dry and replace it and see how you do. The service manual found HERE should help you get through the take apart... and it's really not that hard to do it yourself.
The part number for a replacement roller (if that seems to be the issue) is: RG5-1940-000CN. There are many vendors online who can sell you this part for a few dollars.
