Hello Cobbyzm, The error code of 53.11.03. that you are experiencing would appear to be the RAM memory located on the side of the printer in memory slot #1 is bad. The printer will work without this ram module although it will run a lot slower. You will obviously need to replace it to make things run right again. Good luck! Richard Lilja

the slamming of the cassette is not the answer although I do feel your frustration- the problem here lies most likely with the tray size sensor PWB, its fairly easy to replace ( or in your case to repair) due to the age of the machine no new parts are available , looking for a replacement off the internet may well be the answer- the sensor PWB is located (looking from the front ) toward the rear on th right hand side at the base of the machine- you have to remove 1 screw to release the cover and PWB ( the cover is appro-2" by 3 1/2 " with plastic fingers sticking out) when the PWB is released you should be able to see the push click switches under the fingers- these switches are available new from RS components or Maplin.one or mere of these switches will be inoperative and can be detected by the lack of click as you press it down. replace all to be sure. If all else fails you may be able to source one from Belmonte business machines on 0161 480 5556 as they deal with a lot of HP Products

go to the printer preference settings and change the paper size to A4 if you are using A4 and paper type to plain paper. and do the same on the printers settings menu.

As long as you have the correct envelope feeder then it just locks into place on the front of the printer. Simply open the tray 1 feed door (the one with the model number 4050 on it) and your envelope feeder just "locks" in just above the open tray. If you look at the printer you will see a small square connector block. Now look at the envelope feeder and you will see where the 2 meet together. Then match up the 2 and "lock" it in place.

Hello,The vertical lines can be caused by a damaged fuser assembly. The fuser heats the toner and melts it onto the paper. The roller is covered with teflon and when it gets worn down it leaves streaks or "ghost" images on the paper. Here is an article dealing with the lines on a Laserjet 2100 printer but the cause is the same for the 400 and 4050 series printers. Check your fuser as per the information in the above article and if need be order a replacement fuser from somewhere like Amazon.

You will need to replace the fuser.

Right click on the printer in control panel and click properties, look around for margins.
