Deskjet 3745 power light flashing

Hello thanks for using fixya

You should try this solution:
Remove the power cable from the printer, Press power then wait a few seconds, then Press power again. Now plug in the power cable and try to turn the printer on, It will boot, If it does boot then it means the power supply is not exactly correct in printer. So you may need another power supply

Prints ok in color graphics,

Check that the jets are clean as it sounds like there may be a restricted flow of ink - assuming that there is sufficient ink in the cartridge. Try printing the test picture in the HP Printer Asistant software. This requires black as well and a lack of black would show up. If the black cartridge is full and you suspect that the jets are blocked, try leeching the jets clean by pressing a piece of tissue paper over them. If that does not help stand the cartridge in a saucer of hot water for a while, wipe off the bottom of the cartridge and try it again. There is also a cartricge cleaning sequence in the HP Printer Assistant probram

Printing but no print on paper

You can try cleaning the inkjets using a lint free cloth and some alchol . be very gentle and rub in only one direction . It is common that these jets get clogged especially if the printer is not used very often .

Printer won't stop blinking and won't print. I

This sounds daft but try unplugging the printer from it's power supply WHILE IT IS SWITCHED ON. Then reconnect it and turn it back on.
Believe it or not, that is a procedure specified on HP's support pages. It may or may not work.

The power light is flashing

Hello According to HP, follow these steps for resolving the issue
Remove the rear access door, or the automatic two-sided printing accessory, and check for any paper jams or paper obstructions. Remove any obstructions. Check to make certain the carriage is on the right side of the printer. Rotate the rear paper guide rollers upwards five times, then downwards four times. If the rollers will not move, open the top cover and slide the carriage to the right (if it is not already there and if carriage can move). Try to roll the rollers again while pushing the clutch in. If the rollers do not move, continue on to the next step. Figure Location of the clutch c00040832.gif Replace the rear access door accessory, or the automatic two-sided printing accessory. Close the top cover. Plug the power cable back in. Turn the printer on, and replace the cartridges if possible. If the carriage moves, but there is still a grinding noise, there may be a paper feed issue. If the carriage will not move, then it is a carriage stall issue. After installing the cartridge, if the printer has a solid power light, perform a self-test on the printer. Hope this helps, if so do rate the solution

I've changed my colour ink

Ink is a lubricant for the print heads. Some color ink is used even if you only print in black or vice-versa. If you printed with a color missing, you could destroy that print head from the friction of running without ink to lubricate it. That's why most printers won't allow you to print with a color missing even if you aren't using it.

If you allow the red color to go empty, the residual ink in the head could clog and become permanently blocked. You would never be able to print that color again. So always replace ink cartridges as soon as they are empty.

Leaving your printer on takes very little power. Every so often the printer sends a signal to cycle the ink in the heads so it doesn't clog. If you turn your printer off, the next time you turn it on it will do a cleaning which wastes a lot of ink. The excess ink is soaked up by the waste pad beneath the printer. When the waste pad is full, the printer stops working. Unless you want to spend more than the cost of the printer or waste a lot of time on a messy cleanup you will end up throwing the printer out. So shutting it off actually shortens its life.

If you leave the printer off for extended periods of time, the ink in the heads will clog and you will have to throw the printer away. Someone I know with a Canon (though this can happen with any inkjet) had to have the heads replaced twice within the first few months before the Canon tech told her to stop turning it off. Since then it has worked perfectly for over a year.

How to clear blocked print heads:
-leave the printer on for a day
-run several head cleanings and print the nozzle check pattern
-if that doesn't fix it, remove the cartridge(s) from the blocked head and drop alcohol where the ink enters the printer.
-reinsert the cartridges
-run one head cleaning
-wait about an hour then run some head cleanings.
-dip the print heads in Isopropyl Alcohol overnight, which you can buy from chemist
-if that still doesn't work, your heads may be clogged to the point where they need repair or replacement, which will probably cost more than a new printer.

Prints too slowly

check your paper settings and resolution.

If you have a heavy paper type set, or highest print quality, the printer will slow down to accomodate the features.

go to the printer manufacturer's website and dnwnload the proper drivers from there. you will have to know if you have a 32 or 64 bit version of vista. to find out, go to "computer>system properties" and it should tell you on that screen whether you need the 32 bit or 64 bit drivers.
