Maybe your file document is set on an wrong page size...

We can't expect all the features which is available in XP,vista,2000. Win7 is latest platform.

I've worked on these printers for years and I never heard of a "duplex transfer belt".
Sounds like you broke a wire or missed plugging in a connector.
Probably a bad Duplex Feed Drive assembly or bad DC Controller.

duplexer is the bit that turns the sheet of paper over to enable it to be printed on its other side. Its usually a tray that the sheet is fed into after its been printed on its 1st side, then out of again to effect the flip and print on the sheet's other side. Its probably a 'bolt-on' option to the printer and may not be seated quite right, so not all its connections are making good contact. Careful, though
as there are high voltages present inside the printer....switch it off and disconnect the mains lead before you go investigating the internals!

If by smearing you mean the print is also rubbing off? Then you definately have a fuser unit issue. The fusing unit is the assembly that heats up and "fuses" the toner onto the page. When these start to go bad, usually on one edge or the other the print will smear/double image/wipe off of the effected area. One test you can do to verify a fuser problem is to print a page and then when the page is about half way thru the prcess, shut the printer off. Open the top and remove the toner cartridge, pull out the page and see if the lower part is not smeared. Basically what your checking is to see if the print is ok BEFORE it goes thru the fuser. Based on your description I would suspect your fuser is going bad.

This error is related to the printer exhaust fan. Check the fan make sure there is nothing obstructing it. Make sure the fan is connected correctly to the power supply. You should see the connector to lower left of the fan. If both check out then replace the fan.

check the paper menu for tray 1 setting, it should be set to cassette. then make sure the paper size and type for trays 2 & 3 are set correctly.

Are the ADF rollers turning without picking paper, or is it just not running at all? If the former, check the ADF rollers. If they are smooth, then they are worn and need to be replaced. if the latter, check your driver settings. If they are pointing to the ADF, try removing and reloading your print drivers.
