I purchased a Dynex USB to Parallel Converter Cable from Best Buy and tried to connect but had no success. I then sent an email to Dynex customer service and received a reply in about 24 hours. The rep provided spot on instructions which I was able to follow to a tee. My 14 year old HP Laserjet 5P is now ready to run until it blows up.

I spent hours searching web forums and only received overcomplicated replies by people who think they are techies, none of which worked. I am 63 years old and not a techie, so if I can do it, anyone can. I have saved the email and will forward this straightforward simple fix to anyone who needs it. My net cost was $36.00 for the cable.

Make sure that you are using the correct drivers for your printer, run through the printer setup again and then check the print.

This is just a printer, not a copier.

open control panel and click on printers , then right click on the printer icon for your HP Laserjet then click printer properties goto print options and click rest to default or factory settings , your printer will then print normally

The 5P has connections in the back of the printer, left hand side, under a removable panel. The power plug is under a similar panel on the right side. (as you face the printer from the front) There are connections for appletalk and serial under that left panel but not USB. If you want to use this printer with a modern computer you will have to work from either a serial port or an ethernet converter such as the Asante. Plug the ethernet into your router or RJ 45 jack on the computer and on the Asante. Plug appletalk from the round connector on the Assante into the HP 5P. NOTE: The 5p will not work with a Mac. The 5MP printer will.

If all lights are on this means a "fatal error". One of the boards is defective. Repairing is not possible.

Try to restart the Print Spooler service in Windows.
To do this, follow the following steps:
1. Click Start, then Run.
2. In the blank box, type: services.msc
3. Press the Enter key. The Services console will open.
4. Search for the Print Spooler service in the Services console. When you find it, right-click it & select Stop.
5. When the service is stopped, right click it once more & select Start.
6. Try printing a page on your printer.

I suggest you make a template page with your company logo at the top of the page.
Open your standard letterhead template move the curser to the top of the page and press enter several times to create a space at the top of your letter, then insert your logo. Then save this as a template. Then every time you want the company letterhead with a logo, then you can create your document with this template.

bottom light blinking means it is receiving data try to unhook cable power cycle and try test print with data cable unhooked if you wait should error out if does not print

You cannot COPY with just a printer. You'll need a SCANNER too. Basically, you use the scanner to scan the page, then you print it using your printer.
