HP LaserJet 2840 All-In-One Printer - Answered Questions & Fixed issues

Not to sound like a smart aleck...do you have enough toner in it? Can you print a test page? Sounds like a toner issue to me.

printer is ok, check the connecting cable and drivers.

Hp laser Jet Pro P1606dn 52.0 scanner error

It's a problem with the scanner unable to "see" its home sensor. The home sensor is a black & white film strip stuck onto the flatbed glass, just above where the scanner head homes. The printer needs to "see" the two little black 1mm square bumps in the white area. When the scanner head "homes", as it just disappears under the plastic it should move left and right as it looks at the home strip. If it keeps going and chatters at the right-stop it didn't see the home strip.

This can be caused by dirty mirrors, or lens in the scanner head (clean them);
Low or off color light (replace the bulb or high voltage power board on bottom of scanner head);
Broken, cracked, or loose scanner head ribbon cable (replace or repair);
Dirty or crooked home sensor film strip (I had one of these: the black & white film strip stuck to the flatbed glass was slightly crooked, it doesn't take much!)
Dirty slide bar (clean & oil);
Bad stepper motor, bad scanner PCBA (replace).

Either a bad cartridge or your carousel is not synchronized properly. If you just replaced a cartridge that is likely the source of the error. You can find videos on YouTube on fixing the carousel issue.

I suggest you download the HP toolbox according to your OS. This will give you a better understanding of the problem You can get the link from the HP support website

it is scan camera error, it required service, the top scanner assembly open it inside the assembly there are 4 lanses with little dust clen properly as wll as convex lance, and the scan glass and test it will work, if it does not work it menes the service have not done or you have to replace this assembly

Add memory to the machine and it should resolve your issues. The 2840 comes with 96MB built-in and has one slot open for additional memory located under the right side cover. It can take a max of 224MB total. I would recommend adding a 128MB memory card to max out the machine. It takes 100 pin, 133MHz, SDRAM.

Don't by it from HP as they list it at $500.00 or so. Buy the clone memory for around $25.00 for 128MB.

Lower the USB speed on the product by turning off "High Speed USB". Following are instructions on how to do this from the Secondary Service Menu:

To access the Secondary Service Menu press the Menu button.

Hi Sccfire, This apparently is a fairly common problem with the 2800 series printer and associated with connection to a PC using USB. It can only be overcome by manually configuring the printer?s USB port to work in standard mode rather than at high-speed USB2.0 mode which probably won?t be to much of a problem.
