You need to resend the firmware. If you have a parallel port on your printer you can do it from there, just follow the instructions that come with the RFU download.

If you only have network and USB then you will need to follow the instructions that I wrote for solving this problem on another model of HP.

You can find that tip here

Delete any existing print jobs, reboot the mac and printer, then see if you can print.

Hello !

You have to self diagnose the printer by your self. Please try this solutions.

1. Usually it is getting offline when the main computer that connects directly to the printer is off and you are only sharing from this computer through a router or a switch hub. Sure it will mention that the printer is offline and cannot print anything. You need that workstation to be open to be able to connect to the printer.

2. If not, check the cable connection connecting from your computer to the switch hub or router. Maybe it is just loosen for some reasons. Remove the cable to the router and plug it again. Turn off your printer and your computer and turn it on again. Try to print test page.

3. If not, try to unplug the printer cable connecting from the computer to the printer and maybe just loose up. Turn off your computer and printer, after turn it on again. Try to print test page.

4. If still not working, it not something to do with the hardware problem. I believe is it software problem, maybe you upgrade software or install software that harms your printer. Uninstall some programs from the computer that corrupted the driver files. If you upgrade the main computer, I suggest to uninstall and reinstall the printer software.

5. If not, try to replace the port (whether usb port) and maybe this is the problem. Try to turn off the unit and turn it on again.

6. If not, replace the cable connection from to the switch hub, close all the PC unit and print and try to print again.

Here is the only diagnostics solution I can give to you. Good Luck and Thank you for using Fixya.

Are you trying to print a PDF file from the internet?
The Jetdirect card could be the problem, especially if it's the 615n type, as they fail a lot..
The most likely cause is the firmware, which can be changed by installing Web Jetadmin on a PC on your network. You will need to have internet access in order to obtain the latest firmware. Most of the FW images from 2008 are the cause of the 49.4c errors. So you need to install a newer image (if not available you will need the post 2008 file).
Here are directions for setting up Web Jetadmin

Also, if the printer doesn't come to ready, try removing the cable to the network card and turn on again as it could be a job stuck in some print queue that is still trying to print causing the error. If you are able to get the printer to ready with the jet direct card connected you do not need web jet admin to upgrade. A better way may be to run a config page from the information menu and on the second page will be the tcp/ip address. Download the firmware upgrade to the printer and then ftp the address into your web browser which should look something like ( ex: ftp:/ where the info after the forward slash is the ip address and hit enter and you should come up with a Port icon in the window. Just drag the firmware upgrade file to the icon and it will upgrade the
Hope this helps you

Hi Im Ray.
1st check to see if the paper sensor in tray 2 has not got stuck.Take the paper tray out of tray 2 and look in and up right hand side there should be three levers that move up and down.
2nd have a look at the onboard menu and see if the default tray is set to tray 1.
Check onboard paper settings.

Juliet. Most likely the scanner lamp, or scanner control unit assembly is defective. If you're technically savvy, you could remove the scan glass and lube the shaft that the scan lamp assy slides on. Sometimes that will fix it. Otherwise, the whole top scan unit will need replacing. That could cost over $300 for the replacement.
