try a letter with brown letters to see if it is the black ink cartridge Refilled cartridges do that from time to time

unplug power and the printer cable
plug back only power and see.
Check your computer's Print Que if more than one check them too!
Delete all print jobs then reconnect the print cable that should work

The top of the ink cartridge is clogged
Try a colored word red blue yellow
or green and see what happens.

easy easy do not get alarmed the device needs 2 way direct communication..
in other word you willonly see this by the computer that it is connected to by USB or parallel port or serial depending how old a setup u have. But not thru sharing or WIFI

lift the top while the power is on and the heads shoud caddy over and stop in the center. There is a snap in front of these cartridge holders numbers on the cartridges match the number with the new and they will move after you unhitch the clip the rest is all common sence

Sounds like you have the print que setup to look for a Plotter there is no pens in the Inkjet
Find the proper printer when you go to print.

remove the paper from the feeder unplug the power and plug it nback in it should go into initialization

did you check the printer properties on the computer side?
take off of gray scale I believe this may be the reason

Un plug it from power and signal
Just plug the power back in and see it id asks to do anything

On the bottom rear of the printer there should be an access door with a thumb latch to open it.

You will need to clean the contacts on the cartridge & the printer.

Also check & clean the interface ribbon ( the white tap connected to the cartridge carriage.
Try this first.
Just a few ques.
Is the cart genuine of compatible,refill?
Did you have a paper jam or power outage before problem?

• I replaced both carts with HP brand, no joy.
• I cleaned the cart/printer connections, no joy.

An interesting aside is that if one or the other cart is removed, the appropriate LED goes out and the other blinks. At least some of the sensing circuitry sees the cart.

Anyone have a schematic of the cart/printer electronics?

Mine was doing that too. Here's what worked for me... try getting a Q-tip wet with alcohol. Rub all of your rollers then let them dry before trying to print again. A friend told me that this is a sign that the rollers are wearing out and that it will be cheaper to get a new printer than to fix this issue. Eventually, that's what we'll have to do. In the meantime, try the alcohol.

Try going into Control Panel
--> Printers and Faxes
--> Right Click on the Printer ICON and select Properties
Look for a maintenance or tools Tab across the top and try Cleaning or Deep Cleaning

There are 2 lights, one green and one orange.

If the green one blinks, there's no problem (As says on the manual it blinks cuz is preparin to print)

If the Orange one blinks There are 2 problems:
a) Paper Jam
b) No Paper or Paper Sensor Trapped.

Just keep reading th Owner's Manual and Say somethign if there are no solution.
