only problem ive had with the earlier model not doing duplex was a sheet of paper in the duplexer bin . This is hard to find but if you pull out the paper tray and look in the space where the tray goes up above theres a lever which you can push and it releases the hidden duplex bin which stores the paper at half way through the double pass and if there is any paper in there then the printer will not duplex.

Could be bad Control Panel or bad Formatter.Start with the Control Panel, it's cheaper.1st make sure the cable is attached to it.

I/O stands for Input/Output and is about communication between the printer and your computer. This comm may be done directly, when you connect the computer to the HP LJ via USB cable, or through the LAN (network), if the printer is connected to your router/switch via network cable.

Open right cover, open formatter door, you can easily find out ram located down side of the fomatter, but don't handle RAM/DIMM with bare hands..

If the swing plate gears were bad you and everyone in the room would hear it. When you print check the exit rollers, at the top of the printer. Make sure that they are turning. Maybe the fuser drive gears arn't working. I don't suppose the printer is under warranty, no that's too easy!

This is often caused by software asking for paper that is not loaded in the printer. You can use the paper path test function in the diagnostics menu to ensure that tray 2 is working properly. Also check your driver settings to make sure that the paper size shown in the driver matches what is actually loaded. You need to also check and make sure that the paper type for tray 2 is set for plain paper, otherwise the printer will only print to that tray if you ask for the paper type that is set.

Are you using DHCP to obtain the IP address? If so, typically the gateway will be automatically assigned, and if the DHCP server does not have a gateway programmed in the printer will default to it's own address. Change the IP setup to manual and you will be able to put in any address you want for the gateway.
