is it wireless or usb, if it usb, dont connect the usb cable. on the installation window where it asks for the usb cable, chek mark on the option connect printer later and continue with the installation

Clear your temp directory under windows

try to move the cartrige cradle to left and right for about 10 to 11 times. if the issue still persist you may need to service you printer

• reset the printer, reboot the computer, try to print again.
• open up the printer and remove the slivers of paper in it.

Install the ink cartridges.

1. Turn on the printer.
2. Lift the top cover.
3. Open both ink cartridge cradle latches by pulling each latch forward and then up.
4. Pull the pink pull-tab to remove the clear tape from each ink cartridge. Do not touch or remove the copper contacts.
5. Insert the HP #57 tri-color ink cartridge in the left stall. Insert the HP #58 photo ink cartridge in the right stall.
6. Close both ink cartridge cradle latches by pushing down on each latch until it snaps into place.
7. Close the top cover and press the OK button to print a calibration page. This verifies that the print cartridges are installed correctly.

You will need to check with the printer makers support site for the latest software. Hopefully they support Vista with that model.

It's best to avoid using the CD that comes with the printer anyway. Normally those drivers are out of date by the time the printer is purchased.

You need to bring the guide in so the printer can pull in the envelopes properly, else it will print side ways.

It sounds like you possibly need a new print head for the printer. You should contact HP and see if they know about this and what they'd charge for a new print head to send to you. Might be cheaper to find a new one on Ebay or another HP model.
