Your device will run under XP but no more under Vista or Windows XP . HP doesn't support this unit anymore .
Installing a Virtual version of XP on your system or genuine version on a secundary are the only options .

I installed the Vista Drivers

Install the latest drivers from the website. To download:
1 Go to hp.com 2 Click on Support and Drives 3 Enter your product name or number, in this case just type in Officejet 8500 All-In-One 4 Hit go 5 Choose your operating system 6 Hit Next 7 Click on the link that says Driver - Product Installation Software 8 Save it to your desktop
But before Installing the Software, use the Disc that came with the printer so you can do an L3_Uninstall first.

To go for an L3_Uninstall:
1 Go to My Computer (XP), Computer (Vista and Win7) 2 Right Click on the Driver CD, The one that has the HP Logo 3 Open Util 4 Open CCC 5 Double Click on the icon that says Uninstall_L3
The Uninstall will prompt you to restart the computer once it's done. After doing so, Install the newly downloaded software.
Try scanning again, I hope this worked. :)

HP 4070 Doesn't Power Up

Power requirement per HP specs is 12VDC @ 575mA 6.9w. My scanner and power supply shows 12 VDC @ 1250ma.Over double the power going in that required. No wonder the fuse blows and you have to buy a new scanner because you can't identify or get a replacement fuse. I would suggest you confront HP and have them supply you with a new scanner.

go to hp.com they have an application that will scan your computer for attached devices and will prompt you to download the appropriate driver.

Scanning negatives

Are you saying
The scanner worked with negative with XP but not with Vista?
Uf so this is a drver problem
Two thing to try- 1, Go to Programs/Accessories/system Tools Compatability Wizard and rest to XP then try.
Or 2 Google for suitable Vista Driver

Using hpscanjet4070 photosmart on a Dell with MSWinXP sp2

chances are you had a previous hp printer installed on the computer. image zone is an older version of software for hp printers. look for photosmart essentials for editing photos
