Install Windows XP without a CD drive
You'll need to assign the CD drive (which should show up as USB devicein BIOS or setup) as first boot device, if capable on your model/Computer. After you press power button, you should see a menu or dialog that shows something like 'press F2' or 'Delete' to enter setup. Once in setup, you should navigate thru until you find boot options or something of that nature. Select 'Boot from CD' or ' USB Device'. You should now insert your XP CD into the drive, close the tray, then choose 'Save'. It should now let you boot from the XP CD. At the first screen, you should select 'R' for repair console. It will then ask you to select an installation, type a '1' and then press the 'Enter' key. Next line will ask you to type an Administrator password. If you have one, type it, then press Enter. If no password, just tap the Enter key. Now, at the prompt, type CHKDSK C: /r as in (C: a space /r). then tap the Enter. It shoild now attempt to repair your Windows 2000 installation. When it finishes, reboot, go back into Setup and change first boot device to hard drive. Select Save and reboot LT. Have fun!

Sony Vaio game lag only using fraction of graphics card
Not quiet sure what you mean by its only using a fraction of your graphics card?
If you go in to device manager it will tell you what graphics card you have.
What game is it you are trying to play?
If it is lagging then it suggest that your card isnt powerfull enough to cope with the game.
Have you tried dropping the display settings in the game to see if that helps?

Hard drive
You should have no problems with any drive, just make sure you buy an IDE drive not a SATA drive.

DO I have wireless?
Hi, im sure the PCG-K315M dont have a built in wireless card, You can buy a Usb wireless card for about 20-30 pounds from any shop. If your laptop did have wireless onboard there should be a switch on one of the sides of the laptop,
Have a good christmas

Couple of questions first:
-What operating system are you using?
-Before when it took a while to resume windows what error messages, if any, did you get?

Missing windows file for restart
Firstly try to get to help and Support to do a System Restore to a point earlier than the time you tried to reset the hard drive. If that fails THEN,
Get to a Sony vendor nearest to you and ask them to sell you the systems cds for your laptop. If it is running on Windows XP or whatever, get the operating systems disks and do a system recovery procedure by placing the cds into your computer then follow the instructions on the screen.
I hope to hear from a happy you that your computer is running again. Please try to get Adaware, Malaware and Spyware Software to clean your computer because it might have been highjacked by these parasites

PCG K25 screen problems
Hello. Stay calme, please, don't sell it yet. I live in romania, and because of the poor service quality we are forced to make all sort of "do it yourself type" repairs as we have no choice. However i have some years experience in laptop repairs (including work at some service centers wich I have quit for the reason above)and seen this problem many times, also I have fixed it with ease.
Your problem hasn't anything to do with the back light. If the backlight fails, you only see a black screen or a dim light. The invercer circuitry is a DC-AC power converter that powers the fluorescent lights needed to light up the display. It is a complete separated part of the display.
Your problem is related to the connector between the mainboard graphic adapter and the actual LCD matrix. This connector runs throught the joints of the display - body of laptop. After repeated cicles of open/close the display lid, it may become loose. Therefore go to a service center to have the laptop dissasembled and simply ask them to check this connector. If it is damaged, you will need to have it replaced. This isn't an expensive repair. Also, if you know you didn't dropped the laptop or apply excesive force on it, there is nothing to worry. Good luck, feel free to post other questions and please remember to rate the solutions received from this site.
