MY EXPERIENCE:If you happen to use a computer with more than 1GB of RAM coupled with Windows XP SP2, then you will have trouble putting your computer to hibernation. You may get this message, “Insufficient System Resources Exist to Complete the API”. When you experience this problem, the hibernate feature is not available on the computer until you restart the computer. I was facing this problem because my computer has got 2GB of RAM and putting it to hibernation was causing me trouble. Well you need not worry about it any more as Microsoft has issued a patch for this problem

Computer wont turn on after lightening strike and

Those internal things are CMOS reset. that won't help you. but try this. Unplug the computer for a while, while cylcing the power button, then plug it back in. The power supply has an internal circut breaker and this will hold open as long as the power is still applied. once drained it will close and if it is still good you should be able to start it.

Loud fan

Check that the fan is not hitting any wires in side the case.

If not you may have disoriented the fins while cleaning them. Make sure the fins are not hitting the fan body.

If the fan wasn't installed property the CPU temprature should rise fast and your computer might automatically shut down to prevent damage to the CPU. If that is the case, try reinstalling it making sure it's attached well to the CPU. And remember to add some thermal compound to help the heatsink transfer heat.

If none have solved your problem you can buy a new fan for your CPU at any computer store. Make sure it's compatable with your CPU socket type.

I have lately purchased this fan for my quad core CPU and it's 100% silent. You can run it without a fan also. It's a really huge heatsink. I recommend it.

Error when loading windows

Your shredder may have deleted the MBR (see http://www.geocities.com/thestarman3/asm/mbr/BootToolsRefs.htm for repair tools)
Also the disk partitions may not be recovered by your cd so they will have to be reinstated using PartitionMagic or, if you know how to use it, fdisk in c:\windows\command
Check your disk controller settings and drive types in the setup screen available before booting.
The software is unable to read/write to the drives possibly because of a drive type error or the type of interface selected for the controller in setup.
ATA33 drives have problems on ATA66 settings etc....
If your motherboard was failing it would not correctly select the drive types at boot. It would report

DRIVE C: <none>
and u would get a boot failure.
If you got as far as the setup for your recovery CD I would be surprised if the motherboard was failing.
Swap your DVD to the old Drive cable and try to boot from it. If the controller on the motherboard is bad it wont boot.
Check your cables for damage too..
Hope this helps

My sony vio is not starting up

Hi there, This my indicate quite a few hardware issues but to start,
If you have an expansion card requires its own molex connection to the power supply this may be the problem if the card isn't getting enough power or is unplugged. check and make sure all power cords are plugged in and not coming loose on the mobo and all other components, If you have access to another Power supply try swapping your power supply for a different one. i hope this helps and good luck.

When booting system I get message: Hardware Monitor found an error. Enter power setup

this is a sign that your cmos battery needs replacing on the motherboard its a cr2032 flat disc shaped battery and normally resides near the memory slots. The battery being flat is losing all the hardware and bios settings, F1 just passes this check and allows a boot, you will probably find the time and date is incorrect which is a sure sign of battery problems
