I am trying to hook

Your modem plugs directly into the line ,,, your fax plugs into the filter and then the line.. (or modem) if you wish,, get a 2 way splitter, plug one end into the modem and the other end to the filter and then the fax.. The filter removes DSL noise.. Its needed for a phone or ax to work propperly..

Power light red

You need to hard reset the modem. By doing that, unplug the modem from the power outlet. Look at the back of the modem, you will see there a small red button. You need to press that button. You need to get a pin or pen to press that reset button. Press the reset button for 5 mins. Monitor the power light. It will change to orange light and it will restart. Once it restarted, you can release the reset button and wait for the lights to come up. Since you did the hard reset. You need to configure the modem with your username and password from your ISP.
You need to access the gui or firmware of your modem. If it ask for username and password. This is the time you need to contact your ISP. They will help you to configure the modem. Once they provided you the username and password ofr your modem. Write it down so you will have a copy and in case it happen again you know what to do. Username and password for the modem is different from the username and password for your internet. You also need to enter the username and password for the internet so you can use the internet. If you get a red light for the internet, that means the username and password is incorrect.

If this didnt work. You need to replace your modem.

Power cycle my 2 Wire modem frequently

Sounds like you need to call your ISP - let me guess - Rogers or ATT - and tell them you need them to reset you and also find out what your speed is supposed to be. You may have birds or a nest somewhere out side.

If you are referring to power light, blinking light specially if red indicates hardware damage. powering down the modem for a minute and powering it back on normally stabilizes it but if not normally it needs replacement.

Have a new lap top and to know my 2wire password

Look on the bottom of you modem it should have the default password listed there, if that doesn't work then you should be able to reset it and use the default info on the bottom to log in to the modem and reset the password to whatever you desire. Once you do that I always recommend writing the password down and taping it to the bottom of the mdem / router

Do i need two ethernet cables so ican do both

If your modem has only one ethernet port, you'll have to purchase an ethernet hub (or switch) to connect to this one port and the computers to the other ports. If your modem supports wireless communications, then that is an option if you don't want to run wires to each computer, but each computer will have to have wireless capabilities.

You may try powering down all devices. Power them up in this exact order. One the modem, and wait about two minutes. Two the computer until finished booting up. And lastly the router and wait about two minutes, this should solve your dillema. Thanks, Dana

I cannot send mail on my MacBook Pro (Intel) using

You may be using the wrong SMTP address for the Outgoing mail server address for your email service.

If you are not sure what your SMTP Outgoing Mail Server address is, then you can reference this link
below, to locate the Outgoing mail server address of your current email service provider

Link: POP & SMTP Email Server Addresses
---------------------------------------------------------------------
In regards to checking your mail settings in Mac OS X Mail you will need to perform these few steps:

*Launch Mail
• Click on Mail name and select Preferences from
the drop down menu.
• Now select the Account tab.
• Locate your affected email account from the side
bar and from Account Information, make sure
your Outgoing mail server address is correct.

I am using a .Mac account as an example,
but the same principal applies.

Now if you do find that the Outgoing mail server address for your email service is correct, then the issue may be with the SMTP server for your email service.

One way to determine SMTP functionality however, is to go online and use the web mail page for your email account and send out a test email.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
I would also recommend you make sure your Macbook Pro also has the most current version update.

Apple usually has bug fixes in each of their version updates for the Mac OS X Mail application, as well as other built in Mac OS X applications.

If you are still unable to send outgoing mail, contact your service provider to get more assistance and have them check your SMTP server address, authentication and connection with their Outgoing Mail servers.

Regards,

I reset my modem and now i can't connect to the

You probably removed the keycode in there that told the modem which ISP you were connecting to...not to mention your username/password. Unless a technician TELLS you to reset the modem you NEVER should since it restores the modem to FACTORY DEFAULT SETTINGS. Simply unplugging it for 20 seconds or so should suffice in regards to "resetting it".

You may need to contact your ISP for further assistance with restocking the info in the modem.
