RAS7233KQO washer wont spin and makes a grinding.

Hi, without knowing exactly what the sound sounds like its hard to tell.If the drum trys to spin this could be the sound of a slipping clutch. If it doesnt it could be the transmission doesnt go into gear. If the sound is more dull the motor coupling. The coupling is the cheapest fix, then clutch, then trans. If your handy there not too difficult to change.

I would like to know how to take the cover off of

1. UNPLUG THE WASHER
2. Using a Phillips screwdriver, remove the two screws from each rear corner of the console in the back
NOTE: On some latest models there are no screws (big saving for Whirlpool). Instead there is a console clip on each side of the console which should be carefully released by inserting a putty knife under the console from the front on each side.
3. Pull the console forward and up to remove the tabs on the bottom of the end caps, out of the holes in the top.
4. Lift the console up and lay it on its back.
5. Unplug the harness connector for the lid switch.
6. Insert a flat screwdriver into the front edge of the clip (located on both sides), and pry back. Remove both clips from the holes in the cabinet and slide down the other end of the clips and out the slot in the rear panel.
7. Open and hold the lid while grabbing the cabinet front opening. Be sure when tilting the cabinet that the back edge clears the vacuum break.
8. Tilt the top of the cabinet toward you by pulling on the lid and opening of the cabinet. This releases the back slots of the cabinet from the tabs in the back of the base
9. Carefully pull the cabinet away from the base of the washer and set it aside.

My washer does not spin

have you checked the clutch? you can usually test the clutch by setting the unit to spin and while it is spinning use the palm of your hand against the side wall of the inside of the tub if the machine slows tremendously then you would need a new clutch also remember to replace the brake if you do end up changing the clutch this is a failry common issue in the roper here is a video showing how to change the clutch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tVc6SZ2DD4U if you have any further questions message me back please also note the video is of a whirlpool but roper is made by whirlpool and the repair is the same please also remember to rank how this opinion has helped when our chat has fully concluded it allows me to help others in similar situations Thanks Rick

You need to replace the "motor coupler" that connects the motor to the transmission. Here is a link to the part you need. This video will show you how to do the repair.

The washer fills with water, agitates but does not

yes this does sound like a lid switch problem the part number is 3949247 and runs about 45 dollars.you may have to remove the control panel and loosen the body. but all you should have to do is remove the two screws from the cabinet and the switch can be pulled out between the tuba and cabinet.

Roper washing machine won't spin

Hello,

Most likely you are having a problem with your lid switch. If your machine has a hole on the right side, under the lid, you should be able to see a switch just below the surface. An arm on the lid pushes the switch to allow the machine to spin.

For starters I would unplug the machine and put my hand under the cabinet where the switch is. You may feel that it has separated (glue) and can push it back together. If so, there is a chance you can fix it quickly right now. Take out the two screws and pull the switch under the lid (above the tub) to inspect it. If it is separated at the glued joints just push it back together and put a zip tie around it. Put it back in place, add screws, plug the machine in and test.

If parts have fallen out you may need to replace it. I would suggest http://www.partsblowout.com as they are cheaper than anyone else for appliance parts.

If the switch is not separated or you don't have this type of switch let me know and I'll tell you how to troubleshoot other problems.

Good luck.

I have a Roper RAX7724KQ.

Your suspicion is confirmed. It's definitely the transmission. There are no gears in the machine where the gear stripping noise might come from except the transmission and the agitator dog ears. Run a spin cycle with the lid open but have the lid switch acivated by pressing on it. If the noise is not coming from the agitator then it must be coming from the transmission.
