My acer computer dvd player

If your DVD player cannot play some movie DVDs then the DVD disc may be from a region that is not compatible with the DVD player.

I am trying to figure out how to get dvd drive out

make sure that there is no power input to the computer before proceeding
you will need to remove the side panels from your computer they might have screws or clips to gain access to your dvd drive there should be 4 phillips type (star ) screws 2 on either side and an electrical power supply and a ribbon type lead
once you have unscrewed these and disconnected the power lead just slide the dvd back out to the rear of the computer
hope this helps

Hi My Acer 5542G laptop

Hi duane63,

Here are some things that you can try to get this problem resolved once and for all :
  1. Close all open applications on your computer and start a browser
  2. Click on the link (below) and hit "Run Now" to download the repair kit from Microsoft :
  3. After downloading, start the repair application.
  4. Restart your computer
Here's the link mentioned in step #2 :
MS Repair Kit

If the issue would continue after doing these steps, then it is clear that the drive needs to replaced.

I hope this helps, Thank for using FixYa.

Cant read the cd

This can be a media or a DVD drive problem.
First check if when you insert the disc the lights of the drive flash. Second clean the media or CD. Third there is Disc Cleanup to clean the laser of your DVD drive. Check the power and data cable are connect.
Is possible the the drive is damage check for no normal sounds when you insert a media.
If is possible use a CD or media on other drive if it work you need a new DVD drive.

I have an asipre 5251-1005

Unfortunately no you can not. The drive in this model is a DVD+RW Model and that is not capable of reading disks. Now if you were to get this disk onto a computer that does have a Blu-Ray player and were to copy the movie from that blu-ray and back it up to a standard DVD-R then yes you would be able to.

Acer dvd driver not reading

If it is not reading you need to check the "Region" setting. If it is set for the right region, your DVD might have a problem. Although you need a DVD driver for Windows 98, which is no longer supported,
you do not a DVD driver for XP, Vista and Windows 7; those Operating Systems automatically install drivers for any DVD drives. Since you did not specify your OS, I am limited to telling you to try another DVD drive on that same computer and see what result you obtain.
