Connect the DVD drive.
Try getting in to the BIOS by tapping F2 when the computer powers on.
Go to BOOT and change the first boot device to the DVD drive. Make sure that the name of the DVD drive is listed there.
Save it using F10 and it will try to boot from the DVD drive.

you cannot usually switch installed operating systems from computer to computer like that and still expect windows to boot, but with windows 98 it *might* work.

to install windows 98 on the usb drive, insert and boot from the windows 98 disk like you were to install it on that computer , and then, it should, before it formats any drives, give you a choice of what drive to format.

Your LCD screen may have gone bad. Those screens are replaceable. You may need the assistance of a person with technical experience to assist you in replacing the LCD screen. Make sure that you do not have settings on your laptop that send the video signal to an external source or you LCD screen exclusively. Check with Acer if you don't have a user manual. It depends really. If you can still see the post/splash screen clearly then the problem will just be bad display drivers.

Boot the machine into safe mode. Right click on My Computer (XP) Computer (Vista) and select manage from the sub menu.
When the window pops up select Device Manager.
A device list will populate. When it has look down the list for Display Adapters. Click on the + icon next to Display Adapters to it expands. Right click on the display adapter and select uninstall.

Restart the computer and let it boot in normal mode.
If it boots in normal mode let it detect the Display and install the drivers for it.
I would be a good idea to update the display drivers via the Acer support website.

No separately Flash Disk are boot only thus Computer that are ready for USB Boot Configuration. Somehow you don't have Hard Disk Drive inside, i prefer to use a CD, which this CD is have a windows already.
This called "WINDOWS LIVE" search that on the for freeware availability.

If you could go to Avira and download there rescue disk on the flash drive, plug in the flash drive while the lap is off and start it with flash in.

Then you can run the rescue in dos( dos is before windows starts)
You said you could not because of windows, this rescue will scan
the entire hard drive, and if you have something like a rootkit, virus, trojan, Avira will kill it. Avira is the second best anti-virus software
on the planet.

Tap f8 when you lap starts to bring up the boot menu, and pray
that the flash drive is listed.

When you say play DVDs you mean watch DVD movies? Assuming the drive is not broken you need to use the DVD app. You could use VLC Player which you can download. It's an orange traffic cone icon.

Could be it has overheated and the NVidea chip is damaged. No idea why they are called laptops as to put them on a lap blocks the ventilation and they will overheat.

There are many reasons this can be happening. Try starting the computer in Safe Mode with Networking and see if the problem still exists. I found out in Google that this tablet has Windows 8 on it. You can install Facebook on it by going to the "Microsoft Store". If it didn't install, check if your operating system is 8.1 Let me know if that helps.
