My dvd rom only can
click start control panel,administrive tools,computer management,device manager scroll to cd/dvd rom drives right click properties then properties again then tick enable cd digital cd audio for this cd rom device or scroll to dvd regions select the no _ for your specific area

I am using Acer 4520
your drivers may have been corrupted or you might have a virus run your antivrus program
you might have to physically unplug the leads for this cd-rom then plug them back in this should activate the found new hardware wizard or
you might have to uninstall then reinstall your DVD/CD or uninstall the driver then reinstall for this device
click start control panel admistrive tools,computer management,device manager scroll down cd dvd rom drives right click you will see options to update driver,roll back driver,or
select properties general troubleshoot, select driver click to reinstall drivers click update driver or uninstall then reinstall
make sure that the cd-dvd burner is getting enough power test all leads that are attached to the dvd burner including electical extensions and make sure they have a secure connection or just replace them there might be bad/faulty or
if this does not fix the problem it might be a registry problem
Close all open programs
Click on Start, Run, and type regedit and press Enter
Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
SYSTEM
CurrentControlSet
Control
Class
{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.
Upper Filters
Lower Filters
Upper Filters.bak
Lower Filters.bak
If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose DeleteAfter deleting the keys, close the registry editorReboot your computerOpen My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.or if these fail to resolve the problem

I removed vista and put
Vista is proprietary, you need to go out and find the correct driver for that CD-RW/DVD-ROM for that Acer PC.

The dvd player on my aspire 5520 no longer works.

It doesn't work. Control panel
well i would need to know your operating system first and the exact model i will definitely be able to solve your problem for you.....what is probably wrong is my computers not picking it up because the driver has become corrupt even though you can see it in device manager it still can be corrupt the best thing i can advise just now is a system restore to the closest date that it was working that should work but i am only advising this because i need more info... i hope this helped and i hope to hear from you

Dvd will not eject and
To eject, put a staple on small orifice on the front.
Or, by the Explorer window, go to letter of DVD, and with right mouse button, click on "eject".
Have any disk inside? Maybe the disk have some problem to do the noise.

Hi,
It
happens when the Software that is not Windows Vista capable (such as
printer software, CD burning software, and games) may have modified the
registry to cause the optical drive to not function.
Please follow the steps below:
1.From the Windows Vista default Start menu, point to All Programs, Accessories, and then clickRun.
2.In the Run dialog box, type: Regedit. Click OK.
3.In the User Account Control dialog box, click Continue.
4.In
the Registry Editor window, locate and then click to select the
following registry
subkey:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/System/CurrentControlSet/Control/Class/{4d36e965-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}
5.From the File menu, click Export.
6.In the File name dialog box, type: Savedkey, and then click Save.
7.Click
the REG_MULTI_SZ data type UpperFilters file, and then from the Edit
menu, clickDelete. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click
Yes.
8.Click the REG_MULTI_SZ data type LowerFilters file, and then
from the Edit menu, clickDelete. When you are prompted to confirm the
deletion, click Yes.
9.In the Registry Editor window, from the File menu, click Exit.
10.Shut down Windows® and restart the computer.

The CD/DVD Rom will not
test the leads that are attached to your cd/dvd make sure they have a secure connection or replace them maybe old and faulty
