How do i fit a new belt
Replacing
the belt on your machine is pretty easy.
You will first need to take the top off. Depending on the model of your
machine, there are either 2 screws at the rear of the machine that hold the lid
on, or there is a screw at either side of the lid, about 3 inches back from the
front, hidden under a couple of oval plastic covers about the size of your
little finger nail (Note, these are torque "star" screws). Remove the screws and give the lid a sharp
tap backwards with the heel of your hand to unclip it from its fixings. The lid will now lift off. Now go to the back of the machine and remove
the lower oval cover (about dinner plate sized) that is held on by about 6
screws. This reveals the empty pump and the end of the motor drive shaft.
From the top
of the machine, dangle the belt down and lasso the drive shaft of the motor,
move the belt to the centre of the slotted shaft (you should see where the
original belt was, because that section of the pulley will be shiny.
Now take the
belt in one hand and holding the contact side of the belt (grooved side)
against the large pulley wheel that drives the drum, slowly spin the drum
pulley by hand, holding the belt in place where you first made contact with the
drum with one hand, while guiding the belt on to the drum at the bottom of the
pulley as you slowly spin it. The belt
will stretch and after one full turn it will be in place. Now just check that the belt is in the
correct position on the drum and motor pulley by spinning it a few rotations by
hand.
OK, Job
done. Now for the bad news. Drive belts just DO NOT "come off" or break
on good machines. They come off because
there is a fault. The really bad news
here is that the usual reason is that the main bearings on the drum have failed
causing the drum to "flop about" and causing the belt to dislodge. You should really check the bearings of your
drum before you go buying a new belt, because if they have failed then the cost
of repair will potentially write the machine off. Below are my standard instructions about
checking bearings. Please let me know
how you get on.
What is the easy way
Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,
Here are my general notes for broken or slipping belts and includes a comment on motors which you presumably can ignore. I hope they help you ;-0)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
REMOVE POWER FROM THE MACHINE AND REMOVE THE BACK.
The motor support bolts should be loosened and the old belt removed. Often putting the new belt on is a bit of a struggle, even with the motor 'loose', because it is new and smaller!
Once on it should be tensioned by pulling the motor against the belt firmly- but not over tight- and the motor support bolts tightened.
ON NO ACCOUNT SHOULD ANY FORM OF LEVERAGE BE USED TO TENSION THE BELT. THAT COULD LEAD TO DAMAGE TO THE BELT, MOTOR AND BEARINGS- EXPENSIVE!
If it turns out to be the motor, it is false economy to just have the brushes changed. Experience of others is that the brushes may only last months unless, that is, the motor is totally refurbished.
Hope this is your problem solved.
Good luck,
John C
How to clean the filter
Hi,
I do not know your particular machine but the filter is normally found behind the lower front panel.
REMOVE POWER AND HAVE A RECEPTACLE AND/OR RAGS AT HAND FOR ANY WATER!
It is held in by a circular panel/cover and sometimes comes out when this panel is removed. If not then it needs pulling out!
Good luck,
John C
Zanussi zwf 1221w drum bearing replacement, is
This is not an easy repair to carry out, it involves a complete strip down of washer, and removing the whole drum assy from the washer, and until it is stipped down, you will not know if the drum shaft is worn, if it is, then this puts it way beyond an economical repair.
CLUNKING NOISE WHEN SPINNING
Hello,
Have you tried turning the drum with belt removed to see if sound is from drum or motor. If you cant get at belt easy thru. top ( make sure power is off) then you will have to split the casing which will give you a great view of all the moving parts to see if any loose parts. It may be that the bearings have gone so badly that it is clunking as it turns.Normal bearing failure noise is a rumbling.
Remove 2 screws at rear underside of top lid and remove. On top middle either side by springs remove the 4 screws holding back panel, down below at rear there is normally 2 or 3 screws on corners of panel, now go to side of panel bottom middle by seam and remove round white plastic covers put small screwdriver in hole and pull out there is a screw behind each (8mm small socket). Now by water inlet valves prise out white plastic housing with valves still inside now put screw driver in spli on side panel either side and work it back you will have to hold down drain hose to clear panel, once off you can inspect for any damage or loose parts, check drum pulley is not loose or worn, check motor also concrete balance weights one on back top of drum casing and one at front around door seal, sometimes these come loose. To refit casing it is a reverse of removal.
Hopefully this will be helpful.
Good Luck.
Belt has come off
is there a tension pulley located inside the machine you might want to check to see if this piece is functioning properly
Zanussi FLA 1001W does NOT spin
You need to check the brushes in the motor first, replace if less than 3 or 4mm long.
If brushes o/k, then could be a module or motor problem, apart from the belt being broken or worn of course.
Hope this helps.
Clothes come our smelling bad
Run a load empty on the hottest setting with a cup of bleach.
Then, after finished using the machine each day, leave the door open for a few hours to allow the rubber seal to dry.
Drum banging is it bearing
Hi,
This is difficult to work out as there are so many different symptoms. Here are my thoughts -
Dust from carbon rushes is black. Grey dust usually comes from a loose concrete weight. Loose tub weights are rare on this model but they cause a loud knocking noise which is often worse when the washing machine is revving up to spin and dying down from a spin (suspension problems are also often worse at this safe too). It's not normally a metallic sound though.
If the noise is coming from the motor banging against the sides of the machine then it will make the machine move when it happens. The whole machine may jump or move to one side. The motor often thumps the side of the washing machine on Hotpoint washers where the motor is fitted at the top of the tub and over to the right hand side. This is a daft place to fit a motor and only .I think they've eventually stopped now though.
It is normal to be able to push the drum to the side so that the motor hits the casing. If the suspension has gone, the tub should be twisted and leaning to one side more than the other or it just could be very loose. It's difficult to check suspension if you don't know how it should feel.
If the noise is coming from the inner drum hitting the heating element or throwing an object like a £1 coin (trapped between the inner drum and the outer tub) around, then the washing machine will be stable but the noise would still be a horrible metallic knocking. This is one cause I suspect.
