Apple eMac G4 M9425LL/A Desktop Questions & Answers
I need my computer to be like new again
Hi DerekPretty straightforward actually. Put the restore disk into the machine and open it up. Open the install icon and wait a while. Follow the inctructions that appear. You may have to type in your password.Evenutally the mac will restart and you will be asked which language to use.If you have done any updates to the machine it will tell you that you cannot reinstall the software without doing one of two options. One is Archive and install - which we do not want - and the other is Erase and install - which we do want. The erase will take place and the system will be restored to the out of the box state. You may find that not all the applications are reinstalled - it depends on the particular disk being used.Beare in mind though that your data is still on the disc somewhere, and someone with appropriate software will be able to get at a lot of it.To get around that do this. After you select the language option have a look at the menu bar. The menu at the right has a number of options - one of which is Disk Utility. Select that and wait until your HD shows up on the left of the window that opens up. Select it and then chose the erase/format tab.In the erase options is a secure erase with several levels of secure.Choose whichever takes your fance and then go out n]and have a meal.It will take quite some time - but at the end it would difficult for Tom Cruise and his mates to get anything off your disk.Then. Quit Disk utility and complete the install - this time you won\'t have to worry about the options - it will choose it for you.

Well you will have to look for software made for the PowerPC architecture and not for x86 systems. Look for universal binary in the software as this shows that it will work on PowerPC architecture. As for the operating system OS 10.5 Leopard was the final version for PowerPC based systems.
Good luck

Unfortunately you need the administrator and the password to be able to install new programs. Your other chance is to do a fresh install of the Operating System, that will delete all the data in the hard drive including all passwords.
How to fire wire
Attach some rollers to it, attach a motor to said rollers, add power to motor, and feed wire through rollers. However, I have no idea why you would want to do that.
I was given an old emac g4. it worked ok, slow but
If you are not concerned about any of the files on the computer, I suggest just wiping it and reinstalling the OS from the original software discs - this will ensure there's absolutely no issues with the files on the computer. If you are concerned about saving data, this could get tricky - as it sounds like you've moved something in the user that the OS needs to boot. If that's the case, there's an "archive and install" option when you go to install, more info on that
here. When performing this archive and install, be sure not to check-mark the box that says "preserve users and settings", as the user is corrupted - what it will do is stick the user in a folder on the drive called "previous systems", and you can access the data later from the new user created during the repair installation.
Good luck!
My Emac will boot up but it will not light up.What
Look closely at the screen, can you still see the icons in the background?
If you can and it seems extremely dark. then your problem is likely an lcd inverter board. This isn't a terribly expensive part but getting it replaced might not be cheap labor wise. An lcd inverter is what powers the backlight for the screen.
How to replace the battery.
The battery you are looking for is a 3.6V, 1/2AA leadless lithium battery.
A detailed description about how to change the battery can be found
here and

Enjoy!
