Sub Woofer does not work
hi
there are fast checkings for you:
Quick Connect Card

manual:
http://www.alteclansing.com/downloads/641_MAN.pdf
is the system working fine exept the sub?
my guess: the headphone jack works fine then the speakears are too
if soo then the sub amp is bad
or some connection is torn
try opening the sub and see if everything is hooked right
and if soo then the amp is the problem
every electronics shop can fix this
good luck
My subwoofer started smoking-
a usual problem of a subwoofer just like my old sound system. Subwoofer generates a big heat on its device unlike ordinary speakers. better to send that to a technician to change a spare parts. it must be an ic problem got damage by over using.
thank you for using fixya

Scratchy noise?
Are the speakers old? The only thing that can make a random scratchy noise on the speakers as far as I know is a dirty volume knob. Try turning it all the way up and all the way down (with nothing playing) and see if that helps. If it does, blow them out with some compressed air.
I'm thinking your issue is probably software / driver related though, does the scratchiness happen in other programs? WinAmp? Windows Media Player? .. if it does, you've narrowed it down to a driver-related issue, go to your sound hardware's manufacturer website and download the latest drivers.
