Averatec 6200 Notebook - Page 2 Questions & Answers
Right click Icons and windows simply reloads the desktop
That is a strange issue for sure. I dont use Internet explorer because of issues like this. I would try downloading for free google chrome. Its faster, safer and you can type in a google search in the URL bar... very handy. Just go to google and type in "google chrome" it will have a download link right there. As far as the right click issue that sounds like an operating system error. I would try booting up in safe mode (pressing F8 when you first boot the computer before the loading screens appear) and then trying to right click on the drive and see if you can do it from there. Either way it sounds like an operating system glitch to me. Extremely common with microsoft- if it is a major problem to you- you could always get the restore disks from the manufacturer and re-set everything to factory settings.
Touchpad locked
Hi don't know what OS you are using. I have a 6200 and I upgraded (big mistake) to Vista. I have had this problem when running Vista and by pure chance and out of desparation I did the following and it worked. However if the Fn F9 worked then please let me know.
On boot up press Del to enter system setup
I then went across to the Exit screen and selected Load Optimal Defaults
I then saved the changes and re-booted and it works fine. Could be pure chance
Free On Line manual
Here is Averatec 6200series manual.
Note: there is mistake in filename, so download it and then rename it:
from 6200_Series_Users_Manual.pdf, (just remove comma ",")
to 6200_Series_Users_Manual.pdf
The cursor key on my Averatec 6200 laptop is
Okay. Now I take it that the button is stuck in the depressed position? That's a physical (hardware) problem. You might be able to pop it back up again by attaching a fairly sticky piece of tape to it and pulling up on it, then carefully removing the tape. If this works, try not to press so hard on the button. If it doesn't work, you can either get the touchpad assembly replaced (not cheap), or just use a regular mouse (PS/2 or USB) with the notebook.
I cant find my drivers
Averatec's website doesn't offer driver downloads. They want to sell you recovery CDs or DVDs. But here is a link to a site that does have the drivers for download:

If you find this solution gives you what needed, please take a moment to rate it. Thanks for asking here!
Averatec 6200 rw dvd drive doesnt work
YEs, typically that sound means the Hard Drive crashed. Although you may be able to still use it, its not recomended. Hopefully you backed up you important files because most likely they are un-recoverable. Does the laptop boot at all? If so, do you get a hard drive not found error? any errors?
You can easily replace a hard drive on a laptop. usually you just remove a small screw and pull the old hard drive out and replace with a new one.
Go to any computer store or if you can, order one online as it may be cheaper.
Order a new one, get one with more hard drive space if you want, especially if you have alot of files.
Make sure its the right type of Hard drive as well. I.E. SATA or IDE. If you dont know, then take your old hard drive with you to a computer store with knowledgable techs who can get you the right one. Typicall you can get an 80 gig hard drive for under $60 depending if its a SATA or IDE and what speed it is.
Keep the old one untill you know the new one is the right one in case you have to compare it again with another one.
You will have to re-install your operating system ( Windows XP, Vista, ETC. )
then once all that is done, you will have to go through the task of re-installing all your software, printers and files.
Hope you kept that re-install disk that came with the laptop, that has your hardware drivers and Operating system on it.
Dont be affraid to look at the specifications of the laptop in the owners manual or to take that with you when you go looking for a new hard drive.
Being knowledgable about what your looking for helps to keep sales people from selling you more than what your looking for.
Tigerdirect.com and Newegg.com are two placethat have the item your looking for and usually at a good price.
Good luck.
System Restore
Go to RUN and type in System Restore.
When it comes up you should be able to restore the computer to an earlier date.
Hope this helps. Bud
Averatec 6200 new hard drive trying to reinstall factory cds
Hi there
The problem is that the #2 recovery cd is probably corrupt and unreadable, before you come to this decision take out the memory modules, clean them & reseat them and try the install again, if you get the same error and your pc is still under warranty get in touch with the pc manufacturer and the should send you replacement recovery cd's at no cost to yourself
Kind regards and please don't forget to rate us
Windows dont start
Averatec is famous for not supporting their laptops after they sell them. If your system is giving missing files after a full restore, it's possible you've got some bad hardware. Try running a memory test by downloading memtest86+, and burning it to a cd. It will need to run overnight. If you've got bad ram, replace it. You can also test your hard drive by downloading the support softare for your specific brand of hard drive. Maxtor used the maxblast, western digital used powermax, and hitachi/ibm uses another, but I can't remember the name. Try those, and let me know.
