Power on the machine, open the front hatch as if changing a cartridge. Remove all the cartridges, then lift the locking arm holding the print head in place. Remove the print head and wash under running warm water. Dry it with a soft paper towel and replace it and the cartridges in the printer. Close the hatch and wait for the machine to reset. Hold the resume button until the power light flashes twice - it will do a self clean and test print.

How do I do a waste ink bypass to recycle ink from waste tank to avoid it getting full again?

There is a small tube running from the pump to the waste ink pads. If you connect another tube to that, you would be able to run it out to an external bottle. Please note this won't stop the waste ink counter from doing it's thing.

Windows 7 wont recognise drivers

Your machine is probably too old for the OS. Try networking an XP machine with the printer as a shared unit on the XP PC.

This is a printhead/cartridge error.

First try to reset the computer:

Resetting the PrinterBy resetting the printer's power, the print buffer is cleared and certain sensors are reset. If there is invalid data in the buffer, or sensors are stuck in a particular mode; errors may occur.Follow these steps to reset the printer:
  1. Turn the printer off with the Power button (if available).
  2. Disconnect the data cable from the printer (not applicable to WiFi, Bluetooth or Infrared) .
  3. Unplug the printer's power cord for approximately 10 minutes, and then plug it back in. If troubleshooting a communication issue, reconnect the data cable (not applicable to WiFi, Bluetooth or Infrared).

Canon 1560 error - orange light blinking 5 times

It's mean "Print head not installed/Defective print head".First open cover and remove the ink cartridges. Then open holder and remove the print head.Clean the contacts on printer and print head using piece of cotton and some alcohol. Then put back all again. If the problem persist you need to replace the print head. It's part number now is QY6-0064, because the old QY6-0042 is discontinued.

Prints color badly won"t stay

Hi w0rtm,

To correct this issue you need to clean the print head. Please follow the steps below.

1. Press the "Power" button to turn the printer on. Wait for the printer to fall silent, indicating it has finished all of its warm up.

2. Load letter size plain paper in the printer's input tray if none is present. Hold down the "Resume" button until the printer's power light flashes once, and then let go of the "Resume" button.

3. Wait for the printer's power light to stop flashing, indicating the printer has finished cleaning the print head. Print a nozzle check sheet by holding down the printer's "Resume" button until the power light flashes twice.

4. Examine the nozzle check printout, looking for missing or broken lines in any of the sections. If you see problems with the printout, run the printer's cleaning program again and then print another nozzle check pattern.

If this does not work, please try these.

1. Turn on the printer.

2. Click the "Start" button in the lower-left corner of your computer's desktop. Click "Control Panel." Choose "Printers and other Hardware." Select "Printers and Faxes."

3. Double-click the "Canon i550" icon. Click "File" in the main menu, scroll down and click "Printing Preferences." Hit the "Maintenance" tab.

4. Click the "Cleaning" button. Select "All colors" to be cleaned and click "Execute."

5. Click the "OK" button.

6. Print a sample page and examine whether the quality has improved.

7. If the quality has not improved, repeat Steps 2 and 3. Click the "Deep Cleaning" button this time. Select "All colors" to be cleaned and click "Execute." Click the "OK" button.

If still encountering the same issue, please uninstall and reinstall the unit's driver.

Hope it helps.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Instead of printing out blue

In most cases the printer driver software can have errors while being in use or is shut down. So to reset remove your printer from the PC and uninstall the printer software. Now reinstall the printer software and then connect the Printer to be detected as a new hardware as it will be installed. Now check the printer properties to see the ink levels.
Activate head cleaning before a test is taken . check the wire tags to the ink cartridge. Also check the mechanical settings of the ink cartridge , if jammed or tight remove motor and manually free the drive before it is set back.

Thank you for using Fixya

First, turn off the printer.

Then, remove/delete all print jobs, if any (printer icon tray > show active printers > select jobs and press delete). If the jobs didnt get exclude and are keeping the status of "excluding/deleting", restart your windows.

After reboot, check if the jobs are gone. If so, turn on your printer and try to print again.
