I don't know how to fax

The control panel LCD also provides menus to operate the copy and fax modes independently of a PC. One nice touch: the LCD displays small and large type on the same screen, allowing more information about a print job to show at one time. b.gif 21262659-2-200-dt2.gif
The flash card reader under the control panel means you don't need a PC to print photos.

The MP730, while easy to operate, lacks some of the advanced features you might find on separate printers or faxes. For example, the MP730 can't collate copy jobs. To make more than one collated copy of a multipage document, you have to place the document in the ADF several times. Nor can the MP730 sync fax numbers entered by hand or accessed from within the Windows Address Book (Canon doesn't provide its own fax/address-book software), so you may end up duplicating efforts. Nor does Canon's software create group dials from your address book on your PC or provide a cover sheet. Finally, the MP730 can't forward faxes to another number or hold a fax to send when nighttime low rates kick in, which other multifunctions do.

Still, the MP730 provides plenty of features we do like. Using the menus with the Photo Print mode, you can print a photo contact sheet, pick individual images to print, and set up the printer to copy or print onto high-quality glossy paper. In the Copy mode, menus let you print two reduced originals side by side or print the same image on the same page several times (useful for business cards, name tags, and so on). The fax engine distinguishes voice from fax, sending voice calls to your phone or an answering machine and sending fax calls to the printer or to buffer memory so that you don't have to get a second phone line installed for your fax.

Installing the MP730 software is slow but idiot-proof: You just pop in the CD and follow instructions, which require restarting your PC several times. Canon bundles the MP730 with ScanSoft's OmniPage SE, a lite version of the best optical-character recognition software on the market, and NewSoft's Presto PageManager 6.0, one of the best document-management databases available.
The MultiPass MP730 won't replace top-of-the-line printers and scanners, but its print and scan speeds keep up with other multifunctions' as well as that of most as midrange ink-jet printers and scanners on the market today. In our tests, it printed ordinary text at 6.4 pages per minute and printed CNET's high-resolution test photo in 3.7 minutes. For comparison, the Lexmark X5150 (only $149 but without fax capability or automatic document feeder) prints text at a more common 5.2 pages per minute, and printed our test photo in about 2 minutes. Canon's MP730 scans a page of black in 9.4 seconds and a page of color in 20 seconds; that's seconds faster than the HP PSC 1210. And the Canon makes copies in 18.7 seconds; that's almost twice as fast the HP PSC 1210.

Unfortunately, the MP730 delivers a mixed bag on image quality. When printing, better paper has a big effect. When we printed text on ordinary paper, for instance, it looked grayish instead of black, and a gray shadow haunted the edges of letterforms, while on coated (not glossy) inkjet paper, text popped out in a solid black and looked much cleaner. Our color photo on ordinary paper looked very dotty, had rough transitions between shades, made a blob of detailed areas, printed lines with jagged edges, and mixed inappropriate colors; coated inkjet paper improved detail and let colors appear in the right hues, though much too saturated. And on top-quality glossy paper, textures, shading, and transitions suddenly looked right, and we saw sharp, clear detail.

Grayscale scans on the MP730 when compared with other scans seemed overexposed, losing paler shades of gray along with some detail, while color scans showed accurate colors and fairly good detail despite somewhat grainy textures.

SOLUTION(S): Reset the Sheet Feeder Gears
If the power fails while the paper is feeding or during a print job, the paper feed gears will lose their proper
alignment. The reason is that after the power is restored the paper feed gears will attempt to return to the
home position, which may not be possible if the paper stop cam is not in the correct position.
PROCEDURES
1. Remove the sheet feeder from the unit.
2. Remove the sheet feeder motor from the sheet feeder assembly.
3. Remove the drive gear from its spindle.
4. Realign the lifting tray gear and paper stop cam gear.
5. Reinstall the drive gear and sheet feeder motor.
6. Reattach the sheet feeder to the print unit.
7. Reassemble the unit.

Can't copy at all and printing only shows up color; no black.

Sounds as if the black portion of the printhead may have become dried. I would recommend running1-3 cleaning cycles in an attempt to pull through more ink. If you have any doubts about which colours are coming through do a Nozzle Check from the printer/printer software.

I have a Canon MultiPass

To fix this you first need to remove the ink and the print head.Wash the 4 ink pads in luke warm water.Keep running the water over the bottom of the print head until the water shows no sign of ink colouration.Make sure all of the print head is completely dry before replacing it into your printer. After restarting your printer you will probably see the alarm light still flashing. Now hold your finger on the resume button for up to 2 minutes or until you hear a clunking sound.Hold your finger on this button and the printer will fix itself and the alarm light will stop.

MP730 fax issue-can't receive fax, but can send out

I think I know why. You need to set the proper priority of your all-in-one Canon device. If it is TEL priority, it means you need to have a phone connected to the fax. If the phone rings, you need to pick up the handset and check if it's a fax tone or a call. If it is fax tone, you wait for 5 secs til fax tone stops, and then hang up. After that you will receive the fax. Failure to pick up the handset will not allow you to receive the fax. This might be the most probable setting you have, hence you can't receive the fax.If it is FAX priority, the same thing happens as TEL priority. Only difference is if you don't pick up, and it is a fax, it will still receive. You can also do FAX only. No need to connect a phone. Device will receive automatically.-Acieboy

A puting my mp730 back togathere don,t remember

Blue wire or green wire? If you have trouble with your color vision, have somebody else verify this. Green wires (or green wires with yellow stripes) with ring terminals (especially if they have teeth like lock washers) are used for electrically bonding the metal parts of the system to the ground terminal. In that case, you would look for threaded holes in the metal parts of the frame.A blue wire may go to a screw terminal block, typically for the hot terminal from the AC power connection along with a brown wire for neutral, but screw terminal blocks are rare in desktop printers. More commonly the AC power goes through a nylon two-pin or three-pin connector that mates with a corresponding connector on the power supply board, and the AC wires are usually black and white instead of blue and brown.Hint for future projects: When I remove a grounding wire from a chassis, I put the screw back in the hole (several turns, not tight) to remind me where the ground connection goes. (A loosely inserted screw not holding anything is waiting for that wire.) If you really want to be sure, tie a green thread around the screw, and remove the thread when you are ready to replace the grounding wire.

Printer says wrong cartridge, even after replacing

In most cases the printer driver software can have errors while being in use or is shut down. So to reset remove your printer from the PC and uninstall the printer software. Now reinstall the printer software and then connect the Printer to be detected as a new hardware as it will be installed. Now check the printer properties to see the ink levels.
Activate head cleaning before a test is taken . Sometimes it is possible that the head is not reacting to the need of the PC command or can be an issue with ink drying or poor ink cartridge contacts. Sometimes the power supply unit must be checked as a poor SMPS unit can deliver low voltage and cause issues to the printer function. Check all the leads and connections of the mother board , the tags to the ink cartridge. Also check the mechanical settings of the ink cartridge , if jammed or tight remove motor and manually free the drive before it is set back.

Hello, My Canon Multipass was

Hello there, your printer has encountered a system error. the first thing you want to do is try to cancel all print jobs which have been sent to the printer. Next you disconnect the unit from its main source of power for about 15 to 30 mins. When this has been done the printer should reset itself automatically. Any system errors which has occurred on the printer would have reset itself within the time frame. If it is connected to a PC uninstall the driver and restart the PC before reinstalling the driver again. After all of this the unit has reset itself and cleared all errors which might have been the cause of the problem. If this does not solve the problem then you need to refer the unit to the nearest canon center as it indicates the problem is hardware related and might need replacement parts.
Hope this solution has been helpful?
Thank you for visiting FixYa.

When I print or copy,

Hello,
You could try taking some paper towel, wet it a bit and sit the cartridge on it. Also take a look at the electronic contacts on the side of the cartridge. Make sure they aren't dirty, and if they are gently wipe them clean. Sit the cartridge on the wet paper towel and let it soak a bit then put it back in the printer, and do another head clean from the printer settings. This should moisten the micro ink holes and hopefully free any clogged ink particles.
If it still doesn't work, the printer cartridge may be damaged beyond easy repair and will need to be replaced. Also note, if you are using refilled (re serviced) cartridges, they have a shorter life span and can be hit and miss as the cartridge is being used beyond its intended life span.
If you let the cartridges sit too long (weeks / months) before printing again, the cartridges will dry up.
