Campbell Hausfeld Extreme Contractor Series Air Compressor Questions & Answers
Compressor builds to 100 lb pressure. after a few minutes use, it comes on again to begin pressure build up. next cycle, it trips circuit breaker in house.
You didn't provide all pertinent info available to you. Lets take what we have; and, consider why your compressor is overloading the circuit breaker. Points to ponder:
-
Not knowing the exact model (not series) I don't know what the amperage pull is for your "extreme" compressor or the circuit breaker's rating. A 25 amp compressor connected to a 25 amp breaker could be an issue. Campbell Hausfeld's support pages are crashing so I can't check the possabilites.
-
Are you using a lightweight extension cord? The lower the rating of an extension cord the higher the amp pull on the breaker. If you eliminate the extension cord does the problem go away? Ohm's Law applies. <http://www.ohmslawcalculator.com/ohms-law-calculator>
-
What else is on this breaker? Is there other high-amp equipment in another room (water cooler, window air-conditioner, portable electric heater, etc.) pulling from this same circuit breaker.
-
Is the circuit breaker not performing to specification? I've seen failing breakers trip early.
First, check the owner's manual for power requirements. Next step, use no extension cord; and, insure nothing else is pulling power on that breaker. Then, use a different breaker and see if the problem follows the compressor. If all else checks out than I'd consider binding in the compressor causing the amp pull to be too high.
Good Luck!

My compressor comes on for a few second, makes a slight humming sound, then goes silent; any suggestions?
Please realize I'm not a professional compressor repairman.
Your description "comes on for a few second, makes a slight humming sound, then goes silent" leaves me guessing. When you say "comes on" does that mean it "makes the pumping sound of a compressor" or it "Clicks"? Allow my musings.
On a plugged in and turned on compressor the compressor's pressure switch turns on the pump motor when the pressure falls below it's set low pressure threshold (usually ~ 90 psi). The pumps pushes air into the pressure tank until the pressure reaches its high pressure threshold (usually ~ 120 psi). If the compressor is not plugged in or turned on you can hear a click when the pressure switch turns on.
Aside: Leaks, of any sort, make the pumping more frequent or longer. Bad leaks can make it pump continuous because the high pressure threshold is never reached. The leaks can be in the switch, at line connections or in the pump (valves or piston rings) itself.
I once had a low-volume ultra-quiet compressor that made little more noise than a hum when compressing. If yours is not an ultra-quiet (clicks on, hums, and quits) than I'd have to guess that the pump might be binding instead of pumping. If it is binding then the motor would over-heats and shuts off.
Some compressors are oil cooled. If an oil cooled compressor was extremely low on oil would it bind? I suspect so.
If you suspect binding I'd find a parts list for your model to work from and disassemble the pump to investigate. (see link below)
That's my best guess on limited information. Good luck.

Piston ring for campbell WL506206AI
Most parts lists only show the motor/pump assy (WL373000AJ) for your compressor. Campbell-Hausfeld does however have a breakdown of the motor assy and shows the piston/cylinder assy (WL210300SJ) being available for your compressor. It would be available from any C-H repair center or online at sites like eReplacementparts.com. That is the only way the piston, piston ring and cylinder parts are available, you cannot buy just the piston ring even though that's the main fail part in this assembly.

Campbell Hausfeld air gun has air coming from the nose tip and no nails
If air is coming out from the nose tip but the nailer is not firing any nails, it could indicate a problem with the driver blade or piston assembly. Check if the driver blade moves freely and is not damaged. Make sure the piston assembly is properly aligned and lubricated. Also, check the nail magazine to ensure that it is properly loaded and the nails are the correct size for the nailer. If the problem persists, it may be necessary to take the nailer to a professional for repair.
