wow a compaq forum , HP is correct forum nobody reads this.??? post to HP folks , i just stumbled on this. wow are you a 1 PC shop,. cant try other PS with that PROJECTOR Desktop or laptop. gee? so simple a test, or move PC to projector direct, omg works. and custom cabling,?????????oops RED FLAG that is what is wrong, ever read the VESA spec, on this, its tricky (2002 worst year ever) if you connect that pc direct and it works well gee the cabling is wrong! no distances stated, 10ft, 100ft 1001ft, what? btw ive built these systems my self, even from scratch, (chips) later, late 90s on. they also sell pro grade, buffered VGA, controllers. even from 1 PC and 5 projectors, there are buffers inside that make the signals perfect at all times. NO DISTANCE STATED! do be aware you can not run COAX that far in most cases. facts. (ig goes blurry, sync weak or goes to sleep mode) only buffers work. (video band widths are wide and high) One other system sold is a converter that converts VGA or DVI to a custom data stream at the PC then decodes that at the other end for perfect signal. THERE. one famous company that I bought from was BLACKBOX.(tm) talk to them been using them since day1, before went public stock. https://www.blackbox.com/en-us/products/black-box-brand-products/video-multimedia

Unless you set a master DriveLock password to reset it with, then (according to HP at least) the hard drive will be rendered completely unusable. I think your best bet would be to try and get your kids to give you the password.

The Compaq drivelock feature is designed to protect the data on a laptop's hard drive by assigning a password.

This password protects the drive in the event the laptop is lost or stolen, but can be removed when necessary.

Knowing how to remove or change the drivelock feature can make your Compaq more useful and more secure.

Power on your laptop and enter the drivelock password you established when you turned the drive protection feature on.

You will need this password to access the drive and turn off the drivelock feature.

Click the "Disabled" option in the drivelock menu.

This will turn off the drivelock feature on the Compaq laptop.

Do not enter anything in the password blocks.

Log on to the laptop, click the "Start" button and choose "Shut down." Choose "Restart" from the menu to power cycle your laptop and verify the drivelock setting is off.

If the drivelock setting is off you will not be prompted for a password when the laptop starts up. hope this helps

Try installing the latest audio driver. You can download the audio and device drivers from the Compaq/HP WEB support/download page. Make sure you select your model laptop and the Windows drivers you require and install them. Click on this link to download the drivers: - www.compaq.com/country/cpq_support.html

You probably have a virus in your master boot record.Download The following iso listed below. It is the latest version of the Kaspersky rescue disk. You need to burn it to a CD with a program like Imgburn (Which is also FREE like the iso file). Then you need to boot from the CD and run the scanner. It should fix you right up.Kaspersky rescue cd download:http://majorgeeks.com/downloadget.php?id=6501&file=1&evp=ef4247319d4b536cb88b74d1ae4842b0Imgburn download:http://majorgeeks.com/downloadget.php?id=4870&file=15&evp=0636b68877cb69b15faa3374cb1dcd89

> try to connect the laptop to an external monitor

>if it is the same display
> this is a possible display or video driver issue
> check on the specification of your system
> if the the video card or the video adapter is integrated with the mobo it needs to have a mobo replacement if not just replace the video card//

>if not this is a monitor or lcd issue

Haven't used win98 for a while so bear with me and this uses DOS COMMANDS too.
If useing restore cd/floppy you have to use a utility from compaq that creates two partitions on hard-drive.
They may have a restore floppy if you need it too.
One for "recovery files" and one for "OS Boot"
AHH, the memories, I still have my 95/98/ME Laptops up and running for older stuff. HP n CQ too.
Restore CD should do it all though.
If no restore CD - have Win98 CD?
if Harddrive partitioned and formated - Just do 1
1. boot from Win98 CD.
Partition n Format
2. Choose boot to DOS (puts u in virtual drive A)
3. Type drive letter of CD ( C: D: or E: )
4. Type CD Win98
5. Type Fdisk ( to partion drive)
reboot n do 1 + 2
6. Type format C: ( I do this to ckeck drive for errors)
JUST Boot from CD and follow install instructions.
1 to 6 for if you have problem with Win98 CD setting up Harddrive.

If you connect the projector to the laptop and power up the projector first and then the laptop, the video data will automatically divert to the video port/projector .
On most Presario press the Fn key and the F4 key The function key will have a screen symbol printed on the key.

this means that your battery has very little remaining power. If you just charged the battery it means your battery is going bad. Replace the battery.

If this is a problem you are experiencing while using your browser (online), it is probably the view settings that have been changed. You can adjust this by going to the View menu and selecting the Zoom button: adjust this to 100%. (Also see zoom control in lower right corner of IE, if you have the status bar active showing.)
I think that should take care of it for you. If not, please reply and mention which program you are using when you see this behavior.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!

First, check all plugs and make sure there are no broken or bent pins in them. If the projector you are using have a replacable cable try to replace it to see if the cable is the problem. (borrow a cable from a friend or relative first so you don't buy one if it is not needed.)

If that doesn't fix it, try to connect a different computer to your projector to see if that is better. If so, the output port on your computer may be bad.

Also try to hook your compuber to a different monitor to see if that works. If no computers are able to make a good picture on your monitor, the monitor is at fault.

The fact that you can change the picture quality by wiggling the cable, and that it starts to search for a signal suggests that the cable or the plugs are at fault, but having the wrong resolution set up on your computer may also affect the image quality. Again, try to use a different computer as a source to eliminate (or confirm) your computer being the problem.

If your Usb port works, then the mobo is working, so possible graphics problem. Try booting up in safe mode(normally pressing F8) on boot up then highlight 'start windows in safe mode', to see if Windows will load with only minimal drivers, if so restart again, pressing F8 again, but this time highlight 'start windows with last known good configuration' Doing any of these 2 things can be done in any order, either last known good config first or safe mode.

old PC,, Cq series. cq62-nnnnn you left off the nnnnnn cq62-100, 200 ,300 what? running mS windows 8 HP does not support W8 on this PC so that means you are on your own steam... (you , it and microsoft 100%) forget ACER this is not and ACER PC< at all, (totally different) you could reload w8 , like you did before, now all that works its login password issue, can i presume the screens look ok W8login screens? local login fails, not bios, and not windows live logins fails that is right there are 3 tiers of logins. admin , create a new account and use that or do that and ask at MS how to copy date from dead account to new account, you never said once you had data. if no data on pc, then reload 8, easy no? the newer the OS the more hard it is to get data from that dead account( new permission rules, and hard to do) ask best i can tell, lacking your full model number teh CQ62-400 (newest) had only Windows 7 so how did w8 get there, from whome, and what media. and what install methods. from MS CD? or MS ISO, or from ebay hackers disks/ what? here are the ways, (not data recovery) http://www.pcdied.com/passwords.html
