to be able to open and make power point files you have to install the word software in your computer ..or at least the power point ..If you have the possibility I would recommend the office word 2007 ..but it is on license and it has issues even when you buy it..
so .the fast solution is to install power point alone ..or if you have word..look in the start ..all programs ..Microsoft word..and see if you already have power point
if not..download this one ..it is a viwer that will allow you to view and open all power point files even the ones with password..but not to edit them ..

You can purchase a license-key either from any retail computer store, or online from Microsoft's web-site (if you have a credit-card).

when you buy microsoft products, they come with the key.. it should be written in the cd case, or if you purchased it online, check your emails as they normally email the key to you.

take out the hard drive and see if you still get the I/O error

More than likely, that error is referring to a hardware error, such as a network card.

If your notebook is still under warranty, contact HP.

If not under warranty, contact a local repair shop for an estimate.

If you want to obtain a product key you need to get intouch with Microsoft and purchase a key for your Office 207

go to bios settings , when you started appear the setup options , chosse that option and go to peripherals and you can chosse the boot sequence, save and exit

If you purchased the software, you also purchased a license-key.
If you bought a "physical" product, look for the key.
If you bought "online", check your E-mail (including your JunkMail folders) -- you were sent the product-key, via E-mail.

Go back to the store where you bought your computer, with "everything" that they sold to you, and get them to show you the key.

So there are many problems which will cause issues of the screen.

1. Software
- Try Fn + F5 or something like that

2. Electrical
- Remove battery, unplug power, hold power button for 60 seconds, turn on computer with power plug only, then shutdown, add battery and restart

3. Magnetic On/Off Switch to detect of Close/Open Lid
- Your magnet switch is fubar some how. Open up the speaker cover and see if your lid actuator switch that come in contact with the magnet on your lid cover is stuck or not (find where the magnet is in the back of the front lid cover, trace where the magnet area actually touches the base of the computer and you will find the switch)
- Workaround, start windows with lid at 30 degree angle

4. Hardware
- You need to replace either Inverter, Blacklight, or everything. =)
