Bad HDD? Have you tried a system restore/recovery. Reboot, at preboot repeatedly tap the F-11 key try to get to system restore/recovery.If it's an old machine you may need to replace the HDD.

Hi,I'm not understanding what the problem is. If the battery is dead, and you remove it, how do you expect it to recharge? Why would you remove it? So, you take it out and nothing happens.So? What were you expecting to happen?Before you do anything more, read the documentation that came with your laptop to learn how to care for your battery. The amber light usually blinks with the battery is running low. When you plug in the A/C adapter, the light usually becomes steady to indicate the battery is charging. this usually happens when the computer is trying to boot from a disk that isn't a valid boot disk.if you have a floppy drive plugged into the multibay and a floppy in the drive, try removing the floppy.if there is no floppy involved, try to boot from your system recovery disks, as it's likely that the boot record on the hard drive will need repaired. your system recovery disks should walk you through the process.

If you are running the original version of windows that came with the notebook pc, then it's on the bottom of the notebook pc (laptop).

If not, and you bought/received another version of windows, then it's on a sticker/disc sleeve or sticker inside the original package.

Typically, removing the mother board battery will remove all user settings, including the password you put in. The mother board battery is not the computer battery. Find it in one of the little compartments in the bottom. Again, typically, the password may be persistent for up to 30 minutes. Remove the battery and reattach it tomorrow.

Provided that the hard drive is good, you should be able to boot with a windows xp cd, delete all partitions, reformat the partition and install windows on it. However if your hard drive is bad (which could be why you received the ntldr message to begin with) then you would need to replace it. But it wouldn't hurt to attempt reinstalling windows xp the way I described first.
