I've installed Win 8 twice so far, and couldn't wait to get rid of it within days. So, I would say start by backing up your files, because the roll back or possible failure consists of a clean wipe. Second start checking if your hardware is Win 8 ready. No sound, a lousy display, or not being to connect to the internet is the most common problem for rolling back. Then consider what applications you absolutely require and will they run in Win 8. As for Win 8 upgrade install, you get it directly from the net via MS web site for 40 bucks. You need to get a new laptop charger. Just buy one from amazon,ebay,bestbuy or a prefessional online store, such as chargerbuy.com.Compaq Presario AC Adapter

First - re-seat the hard disk and reboot the computer. If the computer does not boot up then reboot and go into the BIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If it doesn't detect the hard drive then it could be faulty. Then the hard drive needs to be replaced in the computer/laptop, Windows installed and the computer or laptop's device drivers plus your programs etc. to get a functioning computer/laptop again.

Could be a stuck key somewhere, has anything been wasted on the keypad, tap the keys one by one to refresh is. Could also be that the keyboard is broken.

My 2170US does not have built in wireless like some of the other HP or Compaq models of the same vintage. Buying a mini pci wireless card wont make the wireless work. You will need a wireless card for the pcmcia slot on the left side of the laptop then your wireless will work. If there is an issue with the pcmcia slot a cheap work around is to buy a usb. based wireless card and use one of the two usb.slots in the back. It's not high speed usb.2.0 so it may run a little slower. As long as your pcmcia slot works just install the the card that you can buy even at walmart install the software and your wireless should be up and running. Its an old laptop and not worth spending a bunch of money on when new or used much better machines are out there.

If the fan is not working, then take the laptop apart and replace the fan. A non working fan will cause your system to overheat and shut down.

it is most likely an embedded chip on the motherboard , not an actual video card.

Remove the battery for at least 3 minutes... Then put it back and then plug in the charger and switch on the charger. If the battery is completely drained, it would take a while for the charging to initiate. Please have patience and leave it on charging even though without the charging indication for at least an hour. After that still if the charging indicator doesn't lit, then its definitely your charger or laptop. You will need to take it to a service centre in that case.

i would request you to follow these steps .....

1st click on to start go to run and in run type devmgmt.msc.
then click on to ok ,once you have done that it will give you a window named device manager.
then click on to the plus sign of sound and video ...and check wether you have any exclmation mark ,,,if you have that then it means that their is some problem with the drivers and u need to reinstall the driver either by a help of a cd or from internet ,,,if you donot have an exclamation mark then their is a problem with sound port of the computer .....if face any problem while doing these steps u can contact me on fixya

Since there are two diferent V5000 and you dident tell us whitch one you have il give u both models, chose the one you have and download the drivers u need.
