I shut down my compaq

this could be a few things wrong.you should never hit or knock the the harddrive for any reason. 1,could be dirt inside the fan if its not turning it will shut down so it does not over heat.if this is the reason just blow into were the fan is and try and free it up.or you may have to open it up to clean it. 2,make sure harddrive is pushed all the way into its fittings. if this does not work let me know.

How do i set a seagate barracuda 7200 hd to slave

you don't need to setup as a Slave drive like IDE drives. You simply install the new SATA drive on an open port and follow the steps in this thread to format the hard drive. This will allow the hard drive to be used as a storage drive or whatever you plan to use it for. Guide: If you installed a new disk but the system can't see it

I dont know how to change the drillbit in my dw257

Do you mean the Dewalt DW257 drywall screwdriver? For that model, you need to pull the adjustment collar forward. (This part fits over the drill bit to the clutch housing.) Remove the collar completely. Then using pliers, if needed, pull the drill bit tip out of the holder. Then put a new tip into the holder. Then snap the adjustment collar back over the retaining ring. See Figure 3 on page 2 of the manual (see below for a link) to see what the adjustment collar looks like.If you want to replace the bit holder and the drill bit tip, pull the holder straight out from the drill. (Again use pliers if it is tight.) Then push a new bit holder into the spindle until the ball lock snaps into the groove of the bit holder shank. Put in the bit tip. Then put the adjustment collar on and make sure it snaps into the retaining ring. These are the directions for the Type 3 DW257. The manual is available here: http://servicenet.dewalt.com/Products/Detail?isId=true&productNumber=DW257&selectedType=6793# . From the Product Information tab, select your model type and the instruction manual will be shown in the right hand column, if it is available. The manual is available as a PDF; you will need Adobe Reader or a similar program to read the manual.I hope this helps. Cindy Wells

After installing a HD, PC

Such problems do occur due to lot of dust. Remove the fan over the processor (if there is ) & clean the heatsink with brush. It is better if you can remove the heatsink. The thermally conductive paste between processor & heatsink may have dried. Remove the dried paste & apply new thermally conductive paste (silicon based) on the processor. It fills up the micro-gaps between processor & heatsink to cool the processor fast. Another way to clean it is to blow air from vacuum cleaner, but there will be dust all over the place.

I am getting application no found error when I

Hello James, the error you are running into is due to the fact that your Microsoft Word 2007 was either deleted or moved. The first step would be to see if it has been relocated on your computer. To do this perform a search on your hard drive(s) for "winword.exe" which is what the file should be named. If you cannot locate this program than it may have been deleted. You might also want to check your recycle bin to see if you did accidentally delete it, if it's in the bin you can restore it and solve your problem. However if you cannot locate it on your hard drive(s) then you may need to re-install the software. If you don't have the discs/ a method to re-attain Microsoft word then I would recommend trying www.openoffice.org. This is free software capable of reading most Microsoft Word documents. I hope that this has helped you, please have a great day James.

Noisy fan

Remove the side panel from the computer and inspect the system fan configuration as follows:
1.Unplug all cables from the computer (note the location of each cable for easier reassembly).
2.Remove the side panel retaining screws. There are usually one or two screws on the back of the left side. 3/Slide the panel off to expose the inside of the PC. 4.Check for any objects that might stop the fan. 5.With the power off and the power cable disconnected, gently spin the fan with your fingers to make sure the fan is not stuck. If the fan blades do not move or resist movement, replace the fan 6.With the side panel is open, connect the power cable and turn on the computer Make sure nothing enters inside the computer case while it is operating 7.Look inside to make sure the fan is spinning and is not making noise. If the fan is not working or is making a loud noise, the fan should be replaced.

DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS

your system either does not detect a bootable disk, or the HDD has failed. Disconnect any floppy disk, USB storage devices connected to the computer and make sure the HDD with an OS installed is the primary boot device. If you get the same error, remove and reconnect the hard drive. If all else fails, try repairing or reinstalling Windows. If nothing works, you may need to get a new HDD.

Left-click on Manuals.

Left-click on - Parts Replacement Instructions, in the list.

This is a PDF file. Takes a few seconds to see the first page, and longer to fully download.
Let the file download all the way before looking through it. Watch the Download Progress Bar.

Top of the PDF file. (Top header)
Zoom In icon ( + )
Zoom Out icon ( - )

Use the Zoom Out icon to reduce the view size to 100 percent. (100%)
Go to Page 3.

You can go to Page 3, two different ways.

1) In the Top header is a page number box, to the right of the blue Down Arrow.
Place your mouse cursor in the box.
Left-click once.
Type 3
Press the Enter key.

2) Use the blue Down Arrow

Page 3 shows the Front Panel removed. (Also known as Front Bezel)

Go to Page 11.

FIRST!
A) Open the computer case. (Computer unplugged from power)

Observe Anti-Static Precautions!

Anti-Static Precautions:
Your body carries Static electricity.
Static WILL fry out (Short Circuit) the hardware components inside a computer.

Computer on a table, computer unplugged from power, computer case open, TOUCH the metal frame of the open computer case.
This action will relieve your body of Static.
Should you leave your computer in the middle of working on it, be SURE to Touch the metal frame again.

B) Disconnect the IDE data cable from the harddrive. (The Data cable is also known as the Interface cable)
(IDE is also known as PATA. Parallel ATA)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Integrated_Drive_Electronics

NOTE*
Note that there is a Locating Lug on the IDE ribbon cable's connector.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Integrated_Drive_Electronics

In the photo the Locating Lug is on top. It's the two thin pieces of plastic on the top middle.
(For this design. Your Locating Lug design may differ)
The Locating Lug lines up with a Locating Slot, in the IDE connector on the motherboard.
Keeps Pin 1 lined up.

IF your IDE cable's connector DOES NOT have a Locating Lug.
There is a faint Red strip on one edge of the cable.
The faint Red stripe is on the side of the connector that Pin 1 is on.

[ The connector has 40 pins. One is blocked off }

The Red stripe of the cable goes towards the 4 power pins in the HarDDrive.
The four power pins in the Harddrive, that the standard 4-pin Peripheral power cable plugs into.

http://www.playtool.com/pages/psuconnectors/connectors.html#peripheral

The above link also shows the standard 4-pin Peripheral power cable, that has to be unplugged.
(Misnomered as Molex)

Note the rounded corners on the standard 4-pin Peripheral power cable's connector.
This is to correctly align the connector when plugging in.
Sometimes these babies are hard to disconnect.
You can CAREFULLY use a pair of pliers ON the connector, and gently wiggle it, as you pull out.
DO NOT pull on the wires!

Removing the Front Panel: (Also known as Front bezel)
Page 16

There are plastic tabs that protrude out from the Front Panel.
They are on the backside of the Front Panel.
They protrude through rectangular slots in the metal frame of the computer case.
Look through the open computer case, and look towards the Front Panel.

The plastic tabs have a hooked end. The tabs are pressed so that the hooked end will line up with the opening of the rectangular hole, in the metal frame of the computer case, then the Front panel can be eased forward.
The tabs may be pressed In towards the middle of the computer, or OUT.
Depends on which way the hooked faces.

There are TWO tabs at the Top of the Front Panel.
There is a tab on EACH side of the Front Panel, located down towards the middle.
The Illustration doesn't show it, but look for TWO more tabs down towards the bottom.

I suggest you ease the hooked ends of the tabs at the Top out, first.
Keeping the Front Panel's top eased out, go down to the Middle tabs.
Then finally go to the Bottom tabs. (IF present)

In the metal frame of the computer case, that lines up with the optical drive bays, and the harddrive bays, there is a metal locking tab.
It's made of spring steel.
Shaped sort of like a Triangle.

The side of the spring steel lock that faces the back of the computer, is gently eased out, and held.
Then the Harddrive can be slid Forward, and out of the computer case.

Sorry to be so lengthy.

Regards,
joecoolvette

Blue screen of death STOP:0x000007f

This is error that you're receiving is really has something to do with your ATI Radeon video card , the problem here can be a software or a hardware related problem already, so we may need to isolate the problem so we know exactly what is causing it and fix it from there.

We can try first to check if this is a software problem for your video card, lets boot your computer and Safe mode to see if we're still going to recevie that error message, to access it Restart computer and while restarting Press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options and then select Safe Mode.

If we don't receive the error in Safe mode uninstall the driver for your video card and download a update driver from ATI web site and load that to the system , but if we still receive the same error we may need to take the ATI video card out from your computer the hardware itself because that is already bad and we may need to try different video card.
