PCL XL error

Okay,

You printer driver is telling you that it received a font call at data position 317 that called for a Windings font, but the printer cannot find the indicated font.

More than likely you have not enabled soft fonts to be included in the datastream and the printer has no choice but to search its internal fonts to find the fonts.

If it cannot, the driver reports the failure.

If you can create a print file for me, and send it to me at [email protected], I will be able to read the datastream and possibly fix the failure for you.

The printer is no longer recognized when it is

I suggest you test the cable and the port. Get a known working USB device and see if it is recognized. Try the printer on another port (preferably with a known good cable). Check if your computer has been set to disable any of the ports (to avoid a security problem or to save power).

I hope this helps.

(the front ports on a desktop can have their cable come loose inside the machine so that is one more place to check)

Disconnect (all) the printer cables from the computer; reconnect the cables to the computer, and plug in to power outlet. Turn on the computer (first), turn on the printer. Go to; Control Panel, (Hardware and Sound), click Printer; if the Printer is present; click to open, Properties, click (Drivers): Update Drivers. Restart computer. Thanks paul7of9

Have 1700 that picks up paper then stops after

We use these printers in the computer labs at the school district I work for. The easy inexpensive fix is to turn the rubber bands on the rollers inside out.

I have a Dell 1700n that prints just fine, except

The fuser is bad, check inside for paper wrapped around the fuser roller because normally the printer will shut down if there's not enough heat at the fuser or the lamp is burned out. The fuser is just before the paper exit and has heat warning labels attached.

Printer will not print because

1. Open Start menu.
2. Click on "Printers and Faxes"
3. Double-click the icon for your printer.
4. On the menu bar, click "Printer" to open the printer menu. Click on "Use Printer Offline" to remove the check mark. This will bring your printer back online.

If this did not help, check the printer itself & make sure it is not set to be offline.

A print job keeps jamming there

Hi,

Check for some paper left stuck in the printer when you were pulling it out?
Open the printer and take out any paper leftovers and try again.
When pulling out a jammed paper sheet, try pulling from more then one point, applying an even spread of pull force, without jerking it out at once, will give you a better chance of pulling it out whole. Leaving pieces of paper inside is very likely to cause problems...

If all papers were removed from printer and if you still have problem with the printer then the usual cause for paper jams is the rollers need to be cleaned or replaced. Just cleaning the rollers is not enough they need to be rejuvenated as well. I don't suggest isopropyl alcohol as it dries out the rubber, follow these guides to clean the roller

Get a warm wet cotton rag with mild detergent on it and wash over the rollers and the entire printer. Be careful not to damage it thru ruff handling. Don't get water on the electrical parts just the moving parts. Don't use exccessive water squeeze out excess. Be sure and unplug it from the power first. Unplug it from the computer too. Make sure it is dry before you start it back up.

This should solve your issue

Cannot install Dell 1700 printer on Dell laptop.

1. check if any other usb port is working or not.
2. check if you can print through the printer or not.
3. try to reinstall the drivers from support.dell.com, select your printer model and then download the drivers for your printer.
4. if again its giving the communication failure, then the integrated circut which suport the communication from printer to computer is dead.
5. contact a local technican who can fix this
6. more economical, get another printer AIO.
7. also, check if any other USb device is getting recognised or not
8. if yes, then the problem is the printer IC.
9. if no. then we need to install the drivers for the computer chipset.
10. go to the computer manufacturer's website select your computer and thengo to drivers and download the drivers for your computer chipset.
11. if that doesnot fix you need to reinstall the operating system.
12. post another question selecting your computer model if this happens

ALL ERROR LIGHTS FLASHING

The flashing lights are a "Maintenance request error" or a "Fatal error". Most of the time it is a "Maintenance request error" which means the waste ink pads need to be serviced. You can reset the waste ink counter but the ink pads will need to be serviced at some point.
Use the Service option from Printer Properties to start service--maintenance----or you need to service your printer from vendor.....

1720 Dell Laser printer Photoconductor Problem

I finally figured it out (with Dell Tech Support's help)! When you replace the drum, you MUST reset the counter as well. All you have to do is:

1) Turn off the power using the switch on the back of the printer. Open the front door of the printer.

2) Hold Continue button down, power on the printer, and continue to holding Continue down until the LEDs begin to flash. When the LEDs start to flash, release Continue button. The LEDs will continue flashing until only Error LED will be lit.

3) Close the front door. Continue, Ready/Data, Toner Low and Load Paper LEDs should be lit.

4) Wait till the printer completes the POST process. POST is complete when fan noise and rollers stops. After POST wait for 5 seconds

5) Press Cancel button 4 times slowly until the Toner Low LED is lit. This is the procedure resetting the counter.

6) Press and hold Continue until all LEDs begin to cycle in sequence, then release Continue. Now only the Toner Low LED will be lit.

7) Cycle the power of the printer (turn it off and then back on).

GOOD LUCK, EVERYONE!!!

My Dell 1700 prints half the sheet, then stops

I have the same problem. Open the back cover of the printer and in the centre of the rollers to feed the paper out there is a paper sensor (a lever assembly attached to a switch) that lets the printer know when the paper has 'arrived' at that point in the printing process and also when it 'leaves' that part of the printer. On my printer the top of the lever has somehow snapped off so the lever/switch isn't being activated when the paper arrives at that point and the printer assumes there is a jam somewhere. I have removed the lever and glued a small piece of plastic to it to replace the piece that's broken off. It's a fiddly repair and I've had to re-do it a couple of times. I need to find a replacement assembly but part seem to be hard to come by and I don't know the part number to do an internet search.
