20 Most Recent Dell Dimension 4500S PC Desktop Questions & Answers

Hi there,

The file which is missing is located in
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\AOL\C_America Online 9.0\idb\SNMaster.id

Browse to C:\Program Files\AOL 9.1\ and double click on aol.exe. It should start just fine.

To copy the AOL data files and move them to the right location:
1. Click the Start button, then open My Computer.

Note: If using Windows Vista, click the Start button, then click Computer.

2. Access the AOL folder.

If using Windows 2000 or Windows XP, double-click the Local Disk (C:), then navigate to Windows\All Users\Application Data\AOL folder.
If using Windows Vista, double-click the Local Disk (C:), then navigate to the Windows\ProgramData|AOL folder. Windows Vista users can alternatively search for C_AOL90 to find it.

3. Right-click the C_AOL90 folder, then click Copy.
Note: If there are multiple copies of the C_AOL90 folder, copy the folder with the later letter next to it. e.g.: If you have C_AOL90a and C_AOL90b, then C_AOL90b is folder that would need to be copied.

4. Paste the folder into the correct location.
If using Windows 2000 or Windows XP, navigate to the C:\Documents And Settings\All Users\Application Data\AOL folder. Right-click the AOL folder, then click Paste.
If using Windows Vista, navigate to the C:\ProgramData\AOL folder. Right-click the AOL folder, then click Paste.
Notes:

If you do not find the Application Data folder, it may be hidden. To see all hidden folders on Windows XP or 2000, click the Tools menu, click Folder Options, then click the View tab. Under Hidden files and folders, choose the Show hidden files and folders option by clicking it, then click the OK button.
If you do not find the ProgramData folder, it may be hidden. To see all hidden folders, click the Organize menu, click Folder and Search Options, then click the View tab. Under Hidden files and folders, choose the Show hidden files and folders option by clicking it, then click the OK button.

5. Launch the AOL® software again.

Warm regards,

Anirban Mazumdar

If it fits the connector on the motherboard. Also be sure to check the motherboard for compatability for the new PCI card

According to the issue you've got, the following tips may be available to you.1.An efficiency troubleshooting step on hardware is to start your computer with the minimum hardware necessary to run the operating system. If your computer starts successfully it proves that one of the removed hardware devices was the cause of the STOP message. Otherwise move to the next solution.2.Boot your computer in Safe Mode by pressing F8 at startup. Then go to My Computer and right-click on Disk C to select Properties from the dropdown menu. From the Tools tab, perform an error check and disk cleaning. 3.If the about two solutions doesn't work, the last one I can suggest to you is to create a bootable disk. It is the most quick and effective way for you to solve the problem. You just need to download a software can burn your CD/usb into a bootable one and then boot your computer from it. Run the software to fix the issue after that. There are few free software for you to use, so if you want to take this solution money is indispensable. Windows Boot Genius owns a better cost/performance among other kinds of software I've used. It may be a good choice for you if you have money to pay.By the way, reinstall your operating system can also help you out if nothing important stores in it.source:http://www.reset-password.net/black-screen-of-death-and-blue-screen-of-death.html

You can download the drivers from Dell WEB site, thesupport download page. Make sure you select your model desktop or laptop, better still, type in the Service Tag number, it is printed on the label on thebottom of the laptop and on the back or sides of a desktop. (If the Service Taglabel is missing then go into the BIOS setting and on one of the BIOS pages, the Service Tag number will be displayed). This will open the page where thespecific drivers for your model computer are located. Also make sure you selectthe Windows XP or Vista version of the drivers for your Windows operatingsystem. Click on this link to download the drivers: - http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/index.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen

The Motherboard Model for the Dell 4500s is 4T346, this has only two PCI Slots. it does not have AGP slot or a PCI-E slot for a Sperate VGA Card. Unless you have a old PCI VGA card, you have no option of upgrading your VGA. ( assuming you have a old PCI Vga card, chanced are the onboard VGA will have more memory than the old PCI VGA card)

Yes. But you can also remove the metal tab of the pci card and install it in the open slot - as long as you have a narrow pci card.

Dell Dimension... • Answered on Apr 22, 2010

The 2 slots that you see on the system board with memory (RAM) already inserted are NOT for PCI cards. The PCI cards on your computer are enclosed within the card cage. The procedure is much different than with most computers, so here is a link to an Illustrated guide as to how a person is to properly Add/Replace PCI cards.

Are you using a sound card or is it a built in chip? If it's a card, turn off your pc and remove the card. Write down manufacturer, series, version, serial, anything that looks like it might identify the card. Then reassemble computer with card installed and start surfing with info from card. Be sure and include the words, free driver, in your search.
