Adding a PCI ethernet card?
One port on the router is an "Ethernet" port -- look closely to see the 8 wires in the socket.
You'll need a similar 8-wire connector on your computer,
and an "Ethernet-cable" that has 8 strands of wire.
Adding-in the PCI Ethernet card will add an 8-wire connector,
so that the Ethernet-cable can be connected.
Be sure to buy a 'PCI' Ethernet adapter, not 'PCI-E', and not 'ISA'.
It may come with a CD-ROM containing software to be installed.
Don't pay more than $20. Or, find a "computer-geek" -- he/she probably will have one or more "spare" PCI Ethernet cards to give to you.

How do I remove the harddrive from my dell
Hello,
First go to this page
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dim4400/techov.htm#1101565
If you scroll down just a little, it shows how your case opens up. Lay it on its left side (right side if you are looking from the front), press in the 2 locking tabs, and lift up.
That picture shows the hard drive location. Simply remove the data and power cables from the back. Then squeeze the plastic clips on the end of the drive and slide it up and out. That's it. You can remove the rail from the drive and slide it back in if someone else may be using it.
Thanks for using Fixya.
How do I replace a dell dinension 4400 sound card
You can't replace onboard audio, if it's PCI then all you do
is locate which slot it's in, unscrew the small mounting
screw, then carefully pull it out of it's slot, Replace with
new card in reverse order, make sure you have the
software drivers for your new card, and install them prior
to changing the card or follow the manufacturers directions
for installing the drivers...
4400 dimension dell power light is light green
Refix RAM memory.
Pull cmos cell for 10 minutes so all settings defaults.
Reconnect ATX power connector from smps to motherbord.
Also change your smps .SMPs is on back side of cpu on top it is square box.
Also check that cable from cpu power switch connected properly to motherbord power on/off pin.
You can test motherbord with power on /ogg pin ground power pin withg any metal it is in corner of motherbord.
Let me know if you need more assistanse.
Thanks.
How do you remove the side panel on the DIM4400?
I used to have one of these but not anymore so I'm working from memory.
Lay the case on its side. You will see a large oval button on the top and another the bottom.
Ok when I say top and bottom I mean the normal top when it is up the right way.
Push both buttons in at once and the whole case hinges open. You almost need 3 hands but once you know which way the hinge swings it is easy. It is actually a very nice case design.
When booting up after the logo the computer goes
In safe mode try pressing ctrl+alt+del, then go to task manager-->applications-->New task, then type:
explorer.exe
Now your desktop should appear. you could also try running:
msconfig
In the same way, and see wether explorer.exe is still in the startup. Adding it again will permanently solve your problem.
I hope this helps,
Yannick.
Need to have system reinstalled
If it's an OEM system (like a Gateway, Dell, etc.) you should have a recovery disk or restore disk that you can just put in, reboot and let run. It will, of course, put everything back to how it was from the factory - so any data would be lost.
Barring that, a quick googling of "Best buy waco, tx" shows one of their stores that has PC maintenance and repair listed on Waco Dr.
(254) 741-1050Check in the phone book under PC repair or Computer repair and service. I have no idea what they'd charge.

You probably need to run chkdsk.
You grab your (xp?) cd and put it in the drive, and have the computer boot from cd.
Choose repair when you have the option.
It should come to a C:>
Type chkdsk /r
When done, remove the CD and restart.

check power supply in back to see if you have on and off switch but you would'nt be the first with this problem from dell about the power supply going out meaning:
if you don't have nothing happening when your trying to boot the computer then it's the power supply, plug in computer power up and feel in back to see if the fan is blowing if nothing power supply is gone call dell.
Windows problem
The green light on the motherboard is not uncommon to be ON when the computer is not, my asus motherboard is the same way.
First i would check all my power connections to the motherboard , it's easy to miss something like the 4-pin molex that also attaches to the motherboard OR the power connector that goes to the hard drive. check these and all other powersupply connects INSIDE the case , fire it up and post here again if that doesnt clear the issue...
Regards..
