My brother disabled my computer.

There is no way of knowing, he may have disconnected some power leads, taken the memory out, you will just have to get him to tell you. If he wont, take something out of his pc (or misplace something he likes till he tells you :)
Good luck

The door on my read write drive won't open but I

Try opening the drive with the emergency exit, there is a small hole next to the eject button, insert a pin or needle to open the tray with that, in most cases the drive tends to act like this after 2-3 years of use. not an error with the drive but the belt on the motor that opens the tray gets loose.

I have a dimension 4100, and only have 512 in ram

Yes, if only one slot is being used you can install another 512 MB of ram which will give you 1024 MB or 1GB. If both slots have 256 MB in each one then you will need to just buy a 1GB strip of Ram. Go to the link I am posting and let them scan your computer. They will tell you exactly what you can install and the price. This is a site I use all the time and it is reputable and safe with good prices. This will require a download of the scanning tool which is safe. Allow the download. http://www.crucial.com/

I get the BIOS screen and then it turns to a blank

Sometimes this indicates that there is a problem with your hd or other components, Try booting off your winodws cd/dvd and go to the repair console and enter "fixmbr" See if that helps. If it is an older version of windows (311, 98, 95) try running fdisk from boot disk and make sure the partition is active.

Hope this helps

Erase information from computer

If You are familiar with the windows installation, you can reinstall windows. During installation, the system asks You about partition where You want to install windows. So: 1. Select option Delete partition, and answer the question of the system "yes". This option erase All your existing information. 2. Create the partition on the same disc. 3. Install the windows on the same partition. That's all.
If You have another partitions or disc, just format it. And don't forget backup Your personal data!
In any case, is much better to sell the computer with the operation system recently installed - it works much better than a PC with used OS. Best regards.
