the 7 char is what Dell calls a Service Tag. With that, one can go to the Dell Service website and look at what components that PC was sold with; some older models (10yrs or so,) have little info. afaik Dell does not set passwords for their PCs, so their will not be any 'sticker' information on the PC to help you do that. Dell will only Help you fix this problem *IF* the PC is still under a valid warranty, otherwise they would charge you for any help. There are PLENTY of password-reset tools out there on the internet. It will require you have access to another PC to first locate a tool, then to download it, and then burn an ISO image to a CD/DVD or to a bootable USB drive.

Your computer has other problem than the CMOS battery. Most of the desktops if not all can start without battery. Moreover if the battery was used up or very low in power usually the Dell desktops will let you know about it so you can replace it. I suggest you disconnect all drives and extra PCI cards. After turnning the pc on you will notice if the Bios screen shows up quickly. Then add one component at the time and see if you can find what is causing the problem.

1. Make sure the keyboard is connected to the proper port on the back of the computer.
2. Turn off the computer and disconnect thekeyboard and verify there are no bent, burnt or broken pins on the keyboard connector or on the keyboard connector on the back of the computer.
3. Try a different keyboard on the computer.
4. Unfortunately, if all of the above recommendations do not resolve your issue, the motherboard probably has a bad controller and needs to be replaced.

The mouse and keyboard are wireless and a usb dongle is plugged in to run it.You plug in the dongle in the usb ports in the bottom of the touch screen base

IF the ROUTER has wireless "enabled", and your device/computer has wireless (and the wireless is ON) then you should see the router's name when you search for "wireless connections" click on the name and enter the password for the router connection and should be able to connect, IF you can't see the router's name then unplug the router and wait 20 seconds to 1 minute, then plug the router back-in wait for the wireless "light" to come back on, and try again. Hi, Basically, plug them into the back of the computer. You'll find a small round whole on the back of the computer, I would plug them into the one that has either a speaker on it, or sometimes there color coded, plug it into the green plug, and your computer should automatically recognize the hardware as speakers and should work.
