Dell Inspirion Laptop Screen Randomly Flickers, Then Blacks Out

If this laptop is only a few monthe old, then it should be still under warranty. I suggest you return it to the supplier for repair or replacement under warranty. If you try to repair it, most likely you wil void your warranty.

If you don't have this choice then read the following info.
You most likely have a faulty CCFL lamp or inverter, To determine if you have a LCD screen, inverter or video card problem, read this and follow these instructions.
Defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom: Screen flashs on red/pink and off. Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal. Picture flickering with dim display or appear black. Picture flickering on and off. All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp.
Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power the monitor up first then the laptop, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight. Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

Can't connect to the internet!

depending on the browser you are using, go to tools>internet options and make sure that there are no proxy settings inserted in your browser to connect. removing all previous settings might just help. Also try right clicking on the wireless connection icon go to properties and check in tcp/ip settings if you have entered any settings. if there are any settings, remove them and try connecting to the internet.

I'm wonder how old you are and why your computer has Parental Control Software. You're not asking us to go over your parents heads and remove something that they put on a computer that they gave you - are you?

I need k9 off my computer NOW!

Hi,

Can you try this please : Go to start;

  • then run
  • type in regedit
  • go to edit
  • then find, in the box type in the name of the program then hit enter key
  • it will search every instance of that name in the registry
  • make sure the entry relates to that program then hit delete key
  • then ok to confirm delete
  • then F3 to continue search
  • continue deleting,ok,F3 ,untill you reach the end of the registry
it is very important that you make sure you are deleting the correct entries as you can do a lot of damage if you delete something that windows needs ,to be able to boot

Hope this helps

Error loading operating system

1. The reason it says "error loading operating system" is because kill disk wiped the operating system from off your computer.
2. Now that you have the installation disk, you need to tell the computer to boot from it. For Dells, usually press F12 when the Dell logo appears, and it should bring up a boot menu. Select the optical drive and it should boot. If you do not see a boot menu, go into your computer's BIOS and tell it to look at the optical drive first when booting, then it will boot from the disk.

I cannot connect to the internet with my wireless modem

did you install anti-virus or firewall ? you may want to check if the ports are open.
is it just access to the internet or do you also have a local area network connection problem? Can you see/access other pcs on the network? If so, the problem may be in the router and not the pc

Inspiron 1100 will not boot up-suspect power problem

I would hook it to an external monitor first to see if the screen is blown.
If it comes on, keep pushing F12 to get the diagnostic screen.
Run a complete test, it will give you error numbers.

Lines in top of laptop screen.

hi, you say the screen has lines in it after we got it going, but the picture on the screen is visable? ok i have seen this before. the screen is conected to the board but there are wires that go through the hinged part of the notebook, so opening and close action can wear it out, or just get pulled loose. do this! whilethe unit is on slowly move the screen in a open close action. watch the screen and see if it does anything. if you need further help with this, reply. good luck, once more. hope this is helpful.

You could have incompatible RAM modules, try inserting only one RAM module to see if it works.
Check your laptop specs it may only support 1Gb.

Won't follow through on start-up process

If you hear the hard drive spinning and you think Windows is working but you can't see an image then :-
You could have a defective screen - a defective inverter or a CCFL lamp or simply the video cable needs reseating. After reseating the video cable and the problem is still there then :-
To determine if you have a LCD screen or video card problem, read this and follow the instructions.

Defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom:

  • Screen flashs on red/pink and off.
  • Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal.
  • Picture flickering with dim display or appear black.
  • Picture flickering on and off.
All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp

Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power it up, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight.
