Linda, you need to remove unused keyboard languages from the control panel, look under regional settings... Sometimes this is really buried, but in essence, you need to remove/delete unneeded keyboards.

Have you tried using the 'Shift' key and the '2' key? If that works, let me know and I can talk you through how to change it.

The keyboard buttons are arranged as a matrix and so a faulty membrane under the buttons could lead to adjacent buttons not working. Unfortunately, the likelyhood of being able to repair the membrane is pretty small and keyboards are very cheap so I would be inclined to buy another one.

If it works every time you press on the antennae, that means that something is changing every time you press on it. I would guess a loose connection.

That UP arrow refers to an UPPER CASE letter. If ever you press the CAPS LOCK key, it should turn off, if it does not it means the CAPS LOCK key for some reason is stuck. Try restarting the computer and by then the CAPS LOCK should be disabled.

You may have unintentionally set the keyboard for a different language, check it :

1. In the control panel (start --> control panel), open the Region and language tab. In Vista it will be Clock, Language and Region.

   On the language tab, click on details. In vista, click on change keyboards or other input methods.

   Click on the language that you would like and save it as an added keyboard. In vista, click change keyboards and then you can add a keyboard and save it.

Shift keys may be bad:
Your shift key may have a problem. Have you tried both shift keys?

YOU CAN USE THE ON-SCREEN KEYBOARD. IT WILL BE A PAIN TO TURN IT ON ONLY TO USE THE SHIFT KEYS, BUT ITS AN ALTERNATIVE. OTHERWISE, A NEW KEYBOARD WILL DO.

CLICK START>ALL PROGRAMS>ACCESSORIES>ACCESSIBILITY> ON-SCREEN KEYBOARD.

Some keyboards like this have a button that changes the meaning of the functions. In one mode the function keys are normal and in the other mode they often have special meaning for MS Office apps. The toggle button on my keyboard is not labeled.

Of all the keys on the keyboard, replacing the SPACEBAR is probably the most difficult. The SPACEBAR is kept even by a metal wire that is inserted into slots on each leg of the plastic bar key. However, you have to get the wire into the slots without depressing the wire. If you push the wire down, you compress the wire and installation becomes impossible. As a general rule, do not remove the SPACEBAR unless absolutely necessary. If you remove the SPACEBAR, remove several surrounding key caps also. This will let you get some tools under the SPACEBAR wire later on. Once the SPACEBAR is reinserted, you can easily replace any of the other key caps.

I think the solution bit is went inside those keys. Try to dry the whole laptop with the use of the fan, hair dryer etc. If still the problem is there then better to take it for service center to check thoroughly because as you suspect the key may be gone bad completely.

Start>default programs. Click bottom one has the settings you need. "Set program access and computer defaults" Use custom and click arrow at right. Then a menu will drop down. select the email program you want and you have an option of allowing the others by checking boxes. Do this for all of your preferences and click save or ok.

try control panel,keyboard hardware make sure you have the right keyboard selected or you might troublesoot or select properties there you can select general to troubleshoot,driver roll back uninstall ,update driver or control panel administrive tools computer managent device manager scroll to keyboard you could see a yellow question mark? right click to install drivers
or you might try control panel select add hardware wzard
