Gateway laptop keyboard typing incorrect letters

Windows has support for many input-languages, e.g., for keyboards made in France with accented characters,
and for the DVORAK keyboard layout (which is a complete
rearrangement of the letters on the keyboard for maximum
typing-speed).

Go into "Control Panel", and "Regional and Language" and click the "Language" tab, and switch to the "USA Keyboard".

You have your number lock on.  On your keyboard somewhere, there is a key labelled NUM LOCK.  Press it once and your problem should be solved.  There's quite often a warning light somewhere on your computer to tell you it's on.
The number lock is used to turn part of your keyboard into a numeric keypad, to use it more easily as a calculator if you're doing lots of adding up.

I cant find the number lock for my md7820u to use

Is yours a laptop because most laptops don't have a number lock and if it is a keyboard you should have two sets of numbers. One in a line on top and one like a phone pattern on the right side. If you only have the top row then there shouldn't be a number lock or scroll lock. The one that will be there is Cap Lock

Typing numbers instead of letters

Your keyboard has "extra" keys:
* print-screen / system-request
* scroll-lock
* pause / break
* num lock

Press that "num lock" key.
For a laptop keyboard, you may have to hold down the 'FN' key,
at the same time that you press "num lock", to enable/disable this function.
