  • Hi, I know you try a couple of things that may be similar, but this is a standard of mine. “To install, and Update Hardware, click to open "Computer" from the “Desktop”, or the [Start Menu], check to see if there is a DVD-RW Drive (D :), for external different (E or F:).
    I. Look in the “Device with Removable Storage area,” see if the device is present, if so? Do the following: to “setup” the ('player') for “Installation.”
II. Right click on (DVD) “Media Player” select (“Install”) follow all instructions thereafter.
III. If the area is (Blank?), “go to,” and 'click' on the "Start button" click all “Programs” scroll for a Media Disk Player”, open, and do the (“same as above”) for the installation. *Note: “Do the same for “Setup” (above) “Install.”
If the problem still exist, than the best thing to do at this point is perform a "System Restore." Try to remember the exact "Date before the problem occur, or once you start the System Restore, ("pick a date going back more than 5 days"), check the dates and see if any of the dates seem familiar. Pick the closest date prior to the "Sound going out!" Type in the "Search Window" from the start menu: system restore; scroll to find, and open. Follow all the instructions carefully for the process to be successful. "Hope it works out for you; if so rating the help will let me know, thanks."

The usual problem with disc drives is a little belt that drives the loading tray. It stretches with age and slips, so the motor turns but the belt doesn't. If you want to take the time to try finding one, the belt is replaceable.

On the other hand, new DVD/CD burners are only around $30, so it's usually not worth trying to repair the drive. It's faster and easier to put in a new one.

Hope this helps. Thanks for using Fixya!

I have an emachine

Depending on if the drive has no power at all, or if it spins up, but just will not read will determine the troubleshooting of the drive.
If the drive opens and closes and you hear a CD spin up when inserted, they try the following:
http://www.fixya.com/support/r3688895-cd_rom_or_dvd_drive_not_seen_in_windows
The steps in that article resolve most optical drive issues.
If the drawer will not open or if you do not hear the drive spin up, then:
  1. Check the power connection and the data cable connections to the drive (they come loose from time to time)
  2. Check to make sure the drive is seen in the BIOS (System setup) (F2 at boot) If the drive is not seen after reseating the cables, then the drive will most likely need to be replaced.

I have a Gateway LP2417 monitor and there's No sound.Hoe do I fix it,so I can hear the video that is playing?

This monitor may not have built-in speakers. It may have supported Gateway's monitor mounted sound bar. That sound bar connected to the 3.5 mm audio out on a computer and a DIN port on the monitor. The simplest solution is to connect your source to appropriate speakers. Depending on your audio setup, you could connect the video source to a receiver with HDMI IN and HDMI Out (ARC), computer speakers or an audio extractor. (If you are using an HDMI cable between the Gateway LP2417 and a computer, you may need to reset the audio output to use basic computer speakers (3.5mm jack).) VGA and DVI connections don't support audio so I assume you are using the HDMI port. I hope this helps. Cindy Wells

Do i need a driver for old gateway gmax2000 speakers connected to an old acer-based home built pc my nephew gave me?

No you don't need a driver. These are very plain powered speakers that come with a mains adapter and a lead with a 3.5mm stereo jack at both ends. Plug one in the speaker and the other into the headphone jack on the front or the speaker socket on the back which will either be a socket on the motherboard, or if your son put a sound card in the computer, it will be in a sound card. If it doesn't play straight away, go into Settings - Audio and make sure the sound card or the On-Board Audio is enabled. How to make touch screen on gateway computer upside down and how to put it back?

f you want to use your touch screen on your gateway computer in an upside down orientation, there are a few things you need to do. First, you need to change the orientation of the screen in the control panel. To do this, go to the control panel and select "Display." Next, click on the "Settings" tab and then click on the "Orientation" drop-down menu. Select "Landscape (flipped)" from the menu and then click on the "Apply" button. Now that the orientation of the screen has been changed, you need to adjust the position of the touchscreen so that it is in the correct position. To do this, go to the control panel and select "Hardware and Sound." Next, select "Pen and Touch" and then click on the "Calibrate" button. Follow the on-screen instructions to calibrate the touchscreen. Once you have finished, the touchscreen should be working correctly in the upside down orientation. I hope this helps!

I have a Gateway Laptop that on startup only goes to the configuration screen. It won't boot Windows at all

They deleted the Operating System by deleting their own stuff Docs, images, Saved Links etc. and also everything in Windows System probably in spite. You need to reload the operating system (Win 11) from fresh. Charge them from their final pay check, or ask IT to do it.
