Gateway 420gr motherboard sees new 3 gb memory but windows xp will not run

WARNING: Before you start troubleshooting remember that you are dealing with electricity that can KILL. http://www.kitchentablecomputers.com/static.php - rules Only work inside the computer case when the power has been switched off and disconnected. Never open the power source. Some of the below steps recommend removing physical parts within the computer. While in the computer it is highly recommend that you be aware of ESD and its potential hazards Remove the memory modules from their slots. Take the opportunity to clean the slots on the motherboards and the memory module connectors. Use compressed air to blow dust away and clean contacts with a soft cloth. Do not use a metallic vacuum cleaner if it touches any component it may create a short and cause damage to the motherboard or other components. Do not use solvent that may attract dust and never poke things like cotton buds in to slots. lightly rub an alcohol (Methylated Spirits) on a cloth not to hard let the alcohol do the work on the copper gold or silver tabs and r Allow the pins to dry. They will air dry in a matter of minutes. If reseating the memory did not resolve the issue try swapping the location of the memory. If you have only one stick of memory in the computer try moving it to another slot and then boot the computer. Check the memory module and memory slot contacts. They are either copper tin or gold. The colour will tell you which they are. Mixing tin and gold can result in corrosion that prevents proper contact. Look for any sign of physical damage to the memory module, memory slots or the motherboard. Reseat the memory modules. You should hear an audible click when they are in place. Do not use too much force to reseat the memory module in to the slot this can cause damage to the module, slot or motherboard. The hardware that you are trying to access is damaged or failing. The device drivers for the hardware are faulty or incompatible. Could be a problem with the Hard Drive or the Hard drives PCB http://www.onepcbsolution.com/ There is a connection problem such as a bad cable for internal hard drives Test all power and data leads that attach to your hard drive IDE,SATA the leads from your MOTHERBOARD TO THE HARD DRIVE make sure they have a secure dust free connections and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty if its a flat 40pin ide this will be the first to fail Make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd and floppy (If Applicable) have secure connections and are not faulty. or just replace them they could be faulty a computer needs power and data to travel through every working device and continue its cycle and have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error Hope this helps.

Blue light but no power

If you have already tried disconnecting the power-cord from the PC for 1 min.....Then you need to have the Power Supply Unit tested at a local PC repair shop.I don't charge walk-ins for that service, but some shops might.Tallon41

Computer start but monitor goes in power safe

Typically, this happens on a computer which is a few years old, since its batteries will have run out after such a long time.

The motherboard battery is used to store various settings, such as date and time, when the mains power is off. When your computer detects an empty battery, it goes into a low-power mode.

The solution is to replace the button-cell battery on the motherboard of your computer:

  • open the case of your computer;
  • visually locate the motherboard (the main electronic circuit board) of your computer;
  • visually scan the motherboard for a button-cell battery (it looks like a digital watch battery, but a bit larger);
  • remove this motherboard battery from your computer;
  • restart your computer: it should now power up normally (you may get some warning messages during the start-up sequence, but ignore them);
  • set the date and time of your computer using the "Date and Time" control panel;
  • you can now use your computer normally, but you will lose date and time settings when you disconnect the computer power cord, since there is no motherboard battery present to store them;
  • take the motherboard battery to an electronics store and get a replacement;
  • install the new battery in your computer;
  • restart your computer, and set the date and time again; the settings will now be saved using motherboard battery power.

It doesn't open by pushing the button and I can't

Try opening "My Computer" and right click on the drive - choose "Eject"
Be patient if it doesnt open straight away, if you press the button multiple times, or choose eject many times it can get stuck in a cycle of open/close routines.
Also try rebooting and then the 'my computer' eject way again

Can I hook my Mac Cinema HD Display 2005 model to

Windows PC and graphics card that supports DVI ports with dual-link digital bandwidth and VESA DDC standard for plug-and-play setup. You can check the specification of the graphic card and see whether they support those. For the cable if they are not in the box of the display, you can check the following ones.

Gateway 420gr bios config for a pci express card

Try changing another setting in the BIOS when you change to autodetect. If that setting changes also, consider replacing the CMOS battery.
Also, check your PSU rating against the GPU's requirements. The card may not be drawing enough power to start and the MB defaults to the video that is running. You may need to replace the PSU with a higher wattage (and better quality), especially if it's the original power supply unit that came with the PC. What you will need will depend on the card and everything in the case. Google PSU calculator to see what you need.

Windows Media Player cannot play the file because

Try to open the Device Manager, just right click the My Computer then click Properties, then Hardware and click Device Manager, After that just see the Sound, Vedio and game controller if their's no question mark (?) or apostrophe (!). If don't have any mark like that your sound card has no problem. And if they have mark like that you just reinstall the driver of your sound card. But if theirs no changes after you reinstall that driver, maybe your soundcard was damage and need to be replace. If your sound card is built in or onboard just buy another sound card device and install it to your computer.

Gateway 420gr the HL DT ST DVDRAM GSA 4120B reads

It's time to spend $40 to buy a replacement CD/DVD-writer.
There's no way to "fix" your "half-gassed" DVD-drive.
A technician would charge at least $25 to _look_ at your computer.
Instead, "invest" the $25 in a replacement.

I have a good local area connection, but I cannot

You don't say which firewall you are using but those are the standard ports for the internet so most firewalls will allow those connections anyway. If you are connecting through a router check that your PC's gateway and DNS addresses are set to that of the router (right click on the icon which looks like 2 computer screens in the bottom right and then adjust the TCP/IP properties.
