If your laptop came with windows 7 then XP will not be covered because it is a older operational system, however there are forums out there that find a way to use XP on a newer machine, yours may be included, but be warned these are untested methods that could freeze your laptop.

Remove the Power Cord, Remove the Battery. Remove the one screw on the bottom of the laptop that holds the dvd drive in place. The screw will have a circular disc icon beside it. Sometimes that one screw might be inside the memory case. Once the screw is removed, just pull the drive out.

Hello erl, hi.... the hissing noise is usually caused by high voltage arching, but this is suppose to be soft. if the hissing is unusually loud, the high voltage transformer clip cap may be loose, this may cause the horizontal line you see on the screen. take precaution when dealing with this.... here are steps that may help..

1. unplug the unit. allow around 5 minutes for all voltages inside the unit drops to a safe level.
2. open the back cover. place the monitor face down on a table with a dry clean rug or towel.
3. locate the picture tube. on the top side you will see a wire with a cap at the end.
4. use or wear a cloth glove and feel if the cap is loose. re clip the cap and make sure it is secured.
5. replace the back cover.

My question myight sound stupid but, have you tried the manufacturer support website?

Philips... | Answered on Aug 10, 2011 | 353 views

You shouldn't need to remove the face plate to check if there is a disc inside the unit. The SPD2513 is a tray-type DVD drive. There should be a little hole in the faceplace for manual ejection of the disc. Unfold a paper clip and carefully push it into the hole. When you feel resistance, push a bit harder in a straight line. The tray should pop out enough for you to pull it open with your fingers.

My Lite-On optical drive came with a second bezel to match the case if I needed it. To swap the faceplate, there are three tabs to release - two on the sides and one on the top. (Other optical drives have the tab on the bottom). Use a flat-blade screw driver to push on each tab a little bit at a time until the entire faceplate comes loose enough to remove.

I hope this helps.

Cindy Wells
(for slot-load optical drives, also look for a manual eject hole. If there is no eject hole, then you need to lever the disc up out of the drive. Sometimes a credit card will work by itself (lift up under the disc). Otherwise, a card with double-sided tape works. Stick the card on to one side of the tape, remove the protective film off the other side of the tape. Insert into the optical drive with the exposed tape surface facing the disc. Once inside over the disc push down until the tape sticks to the disc. Lift up the card and the disc and pull out.)
