Which model?

If your computer has an nVidia graphics card you may be able to do it from the nVidia control panel. Look in the Windows control panel for an nVidia Control panel entry. From there you may have access to settings that allow you to adjust the display.

It very well could be the flourescent backlight has gone bad. Can you adjust the brightness/contrast at all to see anything?

What is the reason for that?

Some monitor leads do not have all of the pins by design. If this is the case with yours then it could be just a loose connection and may just need reseating to resolve your problem.

For the USB ports, you may want to verify that the drivers for the "enhanced USB" are up to date and for USB 2.0 or 1.1. USB 2.0 ports are generally backwards compatible for 1.1 devices.
