Will not turn on?

This can be a few things first see if the fans and hard drive are spinning. If neither is it normally means the motherboard has failed and needs to be replaced.

After that if both are on and spinning shine a flashlight on the screen. If you see a dim image of the desktop it means the back light had died and needs to be replaced.

If the image is not dim and both are on try connecting an external monitor to the laptop. If you don't see anything on the external monitor either it means the laptops video card has failed and needs to be replaced. However if you do see an image on the screen it means either the laptops LCD cable or the LCD itself needs to be replaced.

Not getting power even with battery only new and

Have you tried with just the power cord in and the battery out? A faulty battery may cause this. You could test the power with a vault meter. If it's outputting correctly then the laptop is probably at fault and you're looking at a fairly costly repair job.

Other devices yellow sign centrino t41

If you recently added a new piece of hardware or have a usb device in the computer these may come up with the yellow caution if there is no device driver loaded for it. You can go online to windows update and let it search for updates and when it is ready to show the results, instead of hitting express hit custom and that will show you all the optional upgrades including all your hardware. Click all the boxes by hardware items and let windows download and install the updates. This may or may not get rid of the caution....it might also mean that you have a piece of hardware that has failed or the driver is corrupt, You can choose to hit uninstall on that particular item and reboot, when windows reboots it may be forced to search windows update on its own to find a compatible driver.

Bon Jour, I have a IBM T41 Thinkpad wich I love but shes slowing

Hi:
streaming tv on your T41 laptop is quite a challenge to start with, and also, you need to check and see how full your hard drive is getting. Another important thing to do is to go to the control panel, click on the add and remove programs , then sift thru the list and see if anything is on your computer, that you don't need, such as trial programs, toolbars, etc. Remove as many as possible.

How to fix black screen?

Hello and thank you for using Fixya's services.

I have a couple of questions and some troubleshooting tips for you:

Questions: Is the splash screen coming on at all? Any picture or text right when you boot up? What Windows are you running (Windows XP or Vista)? Are there any lights on when you boot up or beeps? If so how many beeps do you hear?

First troubleshooting: If it boots up and is at least showing the splash screen (IBM splash screen or text) then it would be that the operating system is corrupt. This can be caused by several things included viruses, power surges or hardware failure.

The solution for this would be to take the hard drive out and slave it to another working desktop computer to retrieve your data. The attach the hard drive back on and reformat it (I can add specifics to doing this once I know the operating system).

Second troubleshooting: If you hear the operating system chime but do not see a picture and all the lights are on, then this would indicate that the back light on the screen is out. You can test this simply by hooking the laptop up to a monitor and see if you get a picture. If the computer screen shows on the monitor, then your back-light is out. If it doesn't show up then your video graphics card is out.

If the back light is out, it is easier to order a new screen (new or used) from eBay and just switch out (simple process and you can find a replacement for under 50 dollars on eBay). If it is the video graphics card, then you can also purchase one from eBay and switch out (a little tougher because you have to take the top of the laptop off). You can get assistance with this from the manufacturers website and pull specs for free.

Third troubleshooting: If you do not hear any beeps and the above solutions did not work. Then your motherboard has failed. This can be caused by surges or dust. You can purchase a replacement from eBay for a fraction of the cost and replace (this is tough and I am not sure if they have specs for this). You can do it yourself, just be sure and put everything back together as it was.

Fourth troubleshooting: To test the battery, take the battery out of the laptop and turn on with just the adaptor. If it boots, then the battery will need to be replaced. There is no way of testing the power adaptor but 85% of the time, this is the problem. Even if lights come on, the adaptor sometimes gets so overheated that it silently goes out but gives just enough power to make the lights come on. The power adaptor can be found on eBay for under 20 dollars and is cheap enough to replace (first) to make sure that is not the problem. The battery can also be found on eBay for under 60 dollars.

Please let me know if you have any questions and I will be glad to assist.

My IBM T41 thinkpad monitors goes.

I have the exact same laptop and issue with the screen going out or locking up (w/the lines as you described). Here's the bad news... this started happening to mine a few weeks ago and I had a few different people weigh-in on the situation (locally) including one person who examined the inside. Unfortunately (unless you can find an obvious loose connection/wire) it IS likely to be a video card gone bad, and (what's worse is) the video card on the T41 is integrated with the motherboard. Replacement cost (1000+) is, therefore, probably more than the laptop is worth. The other bad news is that it will get progressively worse, so (while you may be able to tolerate it for a while) you'll need to get all of your files off it as soon as possible. Mine will still turn on every once in a while, but is definitely no longer reliable.

Unlikely, but I wonder if this issue is well-documented enough (as a "defect") that IBM would consider a recall.
