When typing or using the back space key the letter

we have to make sure if this is an issue with the key board or if it is with the software, it is very simple, all you need to do is, just plug an external key board (USB type) and try using it, if you do not have any issue with the external key board the you just need to replace the key board of your laptop.
If you are having the same issue or something similar to the current issue, it is evident that you have some kind of virus in the computer. have your system scanned with an antivirus software.

Hope this helps.

My IBM T41 developed a problem with the wireless

The disk-drive on your computer is having problems reading data, i.e., it's about to "die".

Sometimes, i.e., when your wireless is enabled, it's trying to read that part of the Windows software that controls the wireless device from the disk-drive,

When Windows writes a block of data to the disk-drive, it calculates a "check-sum" code, using 'ECC', and writes those bytes as well. When Windows reads a block of data from the disk-drive, it recalculates that "check-sum", and compares it with the ECC bytes that also were read from the disk.

A "mismatch" between the "old" and the "new" ECC indicates that the data has _not_ been correctly read from the "sector" (#6310750) of your disk-drive.

Backup your files, contacts, and E-mails, and replace the disk-drive, as soon as possible.

Just installed memory, but still not working

Try another RAM, or check if your RAM is compatible with your laptop model (Mhz) or remove all components like wifi card, hard drive and optical drive. power-on the unit with-out the said components, if successful, there's something wrong with one of the parts. ^_^

IBM ThinkPad T41 won't recognize USB 2.0 Ports

all available ports are not recognized? have you tried other known good usb devices on those ports?if other devices are recognized then it is an issue with the usb device you were first trying to hook. if not, then it may be the port issue or driver. so update chipset driver for your pc. use ibm's website to check for drivers of your pc.

Ibm t 41 screen is blank when graphic card load is

This is a common problem with IBM Thinkpad T40, T41, and T42s. They develop video issue due to over heating.
If you want a temporary solution put some pressure the mouse buttons just below the keyboard and right above the touch pad. Press firmly with your palm when you start the laptop and the display should come back on. Or hold the laptop with your four fingers underneath and thumb on the mouse pad and lift it up so that there is pressure at the point where your index & middle finger are. This will improve the contacts of the chip that is causing the graphic card to malfunction.

We fix these issues all the time. However, it is not something fixable by the end user as it needs professional repair equipment and expertise to get the job done right as it is motherboard level repair.

The cost of this repair is relatively cheap now for IBM T40/T41/T42. It should cost you roughly $80 to $120 to get it fixed (in metropolitan area, in smaller towns repair shops will rip you off). If you are quoted more, then shop around.

My IBM Thinkpad T41 screen is overlaid with multi

Hi, now you could be having one of two problems the first thing and easiest option is to scan for viruses and such like as this is often the cause of any display problems the second and more expensive problem is going to be that the lcd screen will need replacing or you may have a fault on the video board part inside the laptop both of these repairs will need to be done by a computer repair shop.
Check if you have any warranty left as these repairs are not cheap.

Let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok

Lcd screen stuck in external screen mode

How to use the function (Fn) keys on the keyboard - ThinkPad T40, T40p, T41, T41p, T42, T42p, T43, T43p

Switching the display output location.
Switch between the computer display and an external monitor. If an external monitor is attached, the computer output is displayed in the following three patterns by turns:
  • External monitor (CRT display)
  • Computer display and external monitor (LCD + CRT display)
  • Computer display (LCD)
Notes:
  • For any operating system other than Windows 2000 or Windows XP, no additional procedure is needed. Just press Fn+F7.
  • This function is not supported if different desktop images are displayed on the computer display and the external monitor (the Extend desktop function).
  • This function does not work while a DVD movie or a video clip is playing.
To enable this function in Windows 2000 and Windows XP, the following procedure is needed:
  1. When you log on to Windows 2000 and Windows XP for the first time, press Fn + F7 and select a display-switching function in the Initial setup window. Since in Windows 2000 and Windows XP multiple users can log on to a single operating system by using different user IDs, each user needs to select the function in the initial setup window when logging on for the first time.
  2. If the Fn + F7 key combination have been assigned to a presentation scheme function, start Presentation Director, and change the settings.

T41 win 7 video

You maybe able to get the video driver from IBM/Lenovo WEB site.

The same model ThinkPad can have different types of network, video and audio drivers and unless you know exactly which one is installed in your ThinkPad, you need to download all the drivers and install each driver until you find the right driver.
When you download the drivers, write down the device driver and it’s file name so you have a record of which driver you are installing and which directory the unzipped files are located on your hard drive.
Go to the IBM/Lenovo WEB site - support/download page and download the latest Windows XP or Vista device drivers for your model computer, Use this link: -
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/product.do?template=%2Fproductselection%2Flandingpages%2FbrowseByProductLandingPage.vm&sitestyle=lenovo&brandind=10&validate=true
You can download the various drivers and then you click on and run the various driver files, they will then unzip and expand into a sub folder on C:drivers Then install the various drivers from this folder (run the set-up file).

Thinkpad T41 switching from battery and charger

if the laptop is switching between the charger and battery on its own, then that means you have a loose AC Jack on the back of your laptop, it would need to be either resoldered so its not loose anymore or the jack would need to be replaced.

Operating system not found

The hard drive controller is integrated with the motherboard.
Try re-seating the hard drive first to see if the Think{ad oots up.
If not then :-
To test the hard drive, remove it from the ThinkPad and connect the hard drive to an USB hard drive adapter and plug it into a working computer's USB port. This computer will see this as an eternal hard drive, provided the hard drive is OK and you can open the folders and files on this hard drive.
If the hard dis is OK then the disk controller on the motherboard is probably faulty, the cost of replacing the motherboard most likely not a cost effective solution. You can salvage the hard drive and put it into an USB hard drive adapter case and use it as an USB external drive.

I had to reload windows xp as system was corrupt.

find the drivers for your device. Drivers tell your OS how to handle the hardware installed. Usually if you go to the website of the part manufacturer you can find these drivers with ease. Or try this site, ive used it myself a couple times. http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-46258.html
