the relay is timing out this was caused by over run try turning off for 1 hr to let it settle and decompress if it does the same fit a new relay and try if that does not work it meens the compressor has gone expensive repair

I take it this is a manual defrost unit. So, unplug unit ,get a tray of warm water, put in freezer, leave door open , get some towels allow ice to melt (2 hours or more) mop up , restart unit. you can speed things up with heat gun but be careful not to melt any plastic. Use no sharp objects!

Hi did anyone get back to you on this? I have a KIC Fridge and it does the same... take out the top door shelf/rack but then you MUST unscrew the light (cause otherwise your light never goes off and your food doesn't stay cold) cause the top shelf/rack in the door switches off the light... anyway... once the top shelf is out, the door will close better.... not sure how else to fix it though...

This is a very common problem with cheap (sorry to say) brands with auto defrost system. I suffered same when we all went went on christmas holidays break for couple of weeks. The machine is not designed to work normally in lower room temrature like 10'C. There is no mechinical fault. The engineer will have to change the IC. Best option is call the hoover and get it done for £85 includind any parts and labour regardless of number of faults. Don't get local help as the parts itself will cost you more. Or if it is more than 5 yrs old , get rid of it and buy a better one like me. Sorry but I learnt that after spending lot of money. I hope this might help you deciding. Best of luck.

although i am not an "expert"on smeg,if you know where the drain is, just syringe it with clorine bleach neat,that will clear any drain full of s..t.

open the plastic gaurd by lifting it up and then remove the old buld by threading it down. now replace it .

the defrost timer or the defrost heater needs replaced

Check the door switch to see if is working and try another light bulb or try the light bulb somewhere else to see if the light bulb is good. Check to if vent holes coming from the feezer are blocked by something in the fridge. This will make it feel like your fridge is not working.

Check all coils for dirt and hair build up.
They can be cleaned with a soft brush and a vacuum.
Some are on the back of the fridge and some are on the bottom. Without proper air flow the heat cannot disapate very well. Check the vent holes inside the refridgerator side to see if something is in the way.
The freezer sends the cold air to the refridgerator through these vent holes.

Unplug the machine, open the doors, and wait until the ice melts. Using hot water speeds things up, but it's awfully messy.

The compressor does run warm but not hot, if the freezer is not cooling then the comp is faulty, approach local repair agent for cost. Regards The Advisor Smeg Agent

Remove the lower hinge on the fridge door and pack out using a piece of cardboard resrcew the hinge onto the door, this will resolve the problem Regards Advisor Smeg Agent

you may have a faulty defrost timer, best consult a local dom apps store.

remove back panel of freezer. check if there is excessive ice build-up preventing air flow. if there is, then defrost carefully with a hairdryer (with appliance switched off) if no ice or frosting on pipework, check if compressor is running. if it is or hot to the touch or clicking, then you have a compressor fault and replacement is not diy. if compressor not running, then probably module fault
