Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-S70 Digital Camera - Page 2 Questions & Answers
LCD display showing shattered lines - no picture displayed
Hello CathyCool
The LCD itself may not have problems. If it ain't broken it most probably doesn't have a problem. Most likely the problems you have are given by a faulty connector between the LCD and the camera's mainboard. You should take the camera to a service center to have it checked. Tell them to make an estimate over the repair costs before they actually do something. In this way you will know what prices can you espect over the repair. I'll give about 60% chances that this is a minor defect involving that connector. In this case they will just need to reconnect it back firmly.
Charging S70 Batteries
Lithium battery is very sensitive to overcharge, so there is a chip inside the battery to take care that for you. You don't need to worry about leaving it overnight.
Am I having a problem with my Sony S-70
Francois,
First make sure you ddin't buy a Nikon 990...once that's confirmed,
take your S70 back! It sounds like you did all the correct tests to verify the pixels. I also did the test and my S70 passed with flying non-colors.
If you 've only had it for a couple of days exchange the thing for a brand new
one. Prove your point and have a photo ready of the dead pixels.
good luck!
S70 Macro Focus Problem?
The macro is good at 4cm at wide angle, 8inches at full telephoto(different distances for any focal length in between). I read that someplace in the manual, I believe.
Invalid jpeg marker in S70
Wouldn't be surprised if it were a Photoshop problem. Can you open it in another image editor? Have you transferred the image to your hard drive first?
S70 'Pan-Focus' Mode
Panfocus mode on the F505 appears to convert the lens to a fixed-focus design,
(everything in reason is always in focus) presumably by stopping down, and perhaps by doing other lens adjustments.
So "panfocus" must mean "the whole world is always in focus", instead of "quickly focus as you pan", as at least one reviewer has misinterpreted it. This feature is very handy for a couple of reasons. First it eliminates the autofocus
delay, cutting the shooting time down to just the shutter release delay. And
second, it allows for shooting in total darkness, since the image is always in
focus.
Shutterlag S70?
I have the S70 now.. and it's a long shutterlag, that is correct.. but i've taken photos all the day now and it's not a big problem, you get used to it right away.. I can recommend this camera very much! It's just fabulous!
I had the Fuji MX-700 and Canon S10 before and this one is soo much better in all aspects.. And the manual focus, aperture/shutter controls are VERY easy to use.. but it's only a few preset focuses to choose from.
The camera was bigger than i thought but the quality of most pictures i've taken are just amazing. One thing i miss from the Canon is the infra-red focus assist.. the night shots are very amazing! well.. ask whatever you want to know and i'll tell you ;-)

How can I change the language on my Sony DCR PC-100? I'm trying to change it from Japanese to English but I cant seem to find the solution online as well as from reading the manual.
The Sony DCR-PC100 is a camcorder model that was released before touch screen interfaces and language settings became more common on consumer electronics. As such, it's possible that this specific model might not have a built-in option to change the language from Japanese to English, especially if it was originally sold for the Japanese market.
However, there are a few general steps you can try that might help:
- System Menu: Check the camcorder's settings menu for any language-related options. Look for a "System" or "Language" menu where you might be able to change the language settings. Keep in mind that the menu options might still be displayed in Japanese, so you might need to rely on symbols or context.
- Reset to Defaults: Some devices have a "Reset to Defaults" option that might reset all settings, including language, to the factory defaults. This might be worth trying if you're unable to find the language settings.
- Contact Sony Support: If you're unable to find a solution through the manual or online resources, it's best to contact Sony customer support for your region. They might be able to provide specific guidance or let you know if changing the language is even possible on the DCR-PC100.
- Third-Party Resources: Search for user forums or online communities where other users might have faced a similar issue and found a solution. Sometimes, enthusiasts or experts in those communities can provide helpful insights.
- Professional Assistance: If all else fails, consider reaching out to a professional technician or service center that specializes in Sony camcorders. They might have experience with older models and could potentially assist you.
