Take the battery out and turn selection switch to camera and then turn it off. Put the battery back in and its working again.
if that doesn't work try
Try smacking the side of the camera relatively hard with the palm of your hand. Eject the tape and reinsert. You may need to do this a couple of times.

Remove the lens, attach the old lens and see if you get the same issue, if yes, then you have an issue with the base, and will need to be take to a repairman. If no issues, then the new lens is having issues. Since its new, I assume to will have a warranty.

It's not a very good tripod in my opinion. Any that rely on a ball joint are not going to be firm.

It is a VCT100 not a VCT1000. It is a 'tripod', not a 'tripode'. I changed it. If you can spell it, you can Google it :>)

Most tripod heads are held on to the legs with 1/4" re 3/8" thread bolt - just grasp the legs firmly in one hand, the head in the other and rotate the head anti-clockwise.
