Quantaray 28-200MM F3.8-5.6 Lens for Canon AF Questions & Answers
My question is about a Quantaray 75mm-300mm
Slide a piece of paper partway under the ring (make sure you leave enough hanging out so you can remove it later) and see if that tightens the action some.
Another low-tech approach is to push the ring to expose the inner barrel, then attack one or more pieces of Scotch tape or masking tape.

Is Quantaray NF AF work
Quantaray lenses are available with a variety of mounts. Assuming you get one with a Nikon mount, then yes, it will work with a Nikon camera. However, unless the lens has a focusing motor, it will not autofocus on the D3000. Some Quantaray lenses have such a motor, some do not.

I have a 35mm film
Those lenses will fit on every Nikon digital SLR. However, the autofocus will only work on cameras with an autofocus motor, the the AF will not work on the D40, D40x, D60, D3000, D3100, D5000, and D5100. Note that this is just the focusing: if you're willing to focus manually then those lenses will work perfectly well on those cameras.
Due to the smaller image sensor of most digital cameras, the lenses will act as if they were about 1.5 times longer. Thus a 50mm lens on a digital camera will give about the same field of view as a 75mm lens would on a film camera. This applies to all Nikon dSLRs except for the D3 family and the D700, which behave in this respect like a 35mm film camera.
You have to decide what's affordable for you, balancing such factors as weight, ease-of-use, and of course cost.

Can I use my Quantaray
Quantaray makes their lenses available for a variety of camera brands. If the lens has a Canon mount, then no. If the lens has a Nikon mount, then yes.
Also, bear in mind that if the lens does not have an internal focusing motor then you will not get autofocusing with the D3000. Everything else will still work, but you'll just have to focus manually.

paper will not feed
You would probably need to remove the covers on this model to get a good look at the feed path something might be blocking there.
It could also be that the pickup roller is not gripping the paper, but you would have noticed the gradual increase in pickup problems.
If this is the case, may try and clean the pickup roller with a cotton wipe, cardboard moistened with citrus cleaner or eucalyptus oil.

I have a Quantaray 28-200mm lens that I used on my
The short answer is no.
The Long answer is maybe. You'd have to call some stores that carry the Quantaray products. Get phone numbers for the distributor, warranty repair shops, and maybe Quantaray home offices which may be in another country. Then you can find out if they still have the mounts for those lenses in stock, can it be done, where to send it, and how much. Mind you, they may have to totally change the electronics and the motors inside the lens too.

Flash problems with Quantaray 28-200MM F3.8-5.6
Try using an external flash. even if you just borrow one inside the camera store. make sure that i isnt just the lens being too long for the on camera flash.
as far as not working all the time. that is a little more complicated. I would go back to the camera store where you said you took it and ask them to call their repair center and give you sigmas address. if you send it to them directly then there is no fee to have it checked out. and you will actually get it back quicker.
Sigma is the one that made that lens for quantaray.

Canon error codes
I have a 100-300mm Quantaray lense and have the exact same issue. I spoke to Canon about this and they suggested cleaning the contacts. That helps for 1 picture. You would have to remove the lense and rub the contacts between each picture. Not a good plan. They suggested the Quantaray may have a fix or repair for the lense and to contact them. However they have no listed 800 number nor any website. only other suggestion is to contact a camera shop and see if they can service the lense. Only other option is to replace it.

Problem
Make sure your F stop number is not set to a high number.
like 22 unless you change the f stop in the camera. what im telling you to make sure of is that the aperture of the lens is not set to its smallest opening. because that would make the eye piece look dark inside. to fix you would just turn the ring with the numbers going from 3.8 - 22 or something close to a lower number like the 3.8.
let me know if that fixes it,
Caleb

Attachment for filter and hood
If you go to the camera store that sells quantaray then they will be able to order you one if they do not have it in stock.
or you can find one on a online auction site.
you need a step down ring. I believe the size of your lens is 58 mm but you could go to any camera store and ask them to verify that. but it should also be stamped on the front of the lens written in white.
if you find 58 mm anywhere on it then I am right. And that means you need a 72 to 58 mm stepping ring.
hope that helps,
Caleb

Quantaray 28-200mm Aspherical IF
Usually.
Quantary Lenses are made by either Sigma or Tamron That lens was usualy made buy sigma. the way to tell is to take it to a camera store that sells 28-200 lenses and hold your lens next to the sigma or tamron. They will look the same just with a different name. one of the main difference's between the store brand quantaray and sigma is that alot of time the metal bearings used in the name brand are replace with plastic ones for the quantaray. I tell you that just so you know why the sigma lenses cost more.
you can also find broken ones on online auction sites and use them for parts.
hope you get it working,
Caleb

Quantaray 28-200mm Aspherical IF
If I read this right, your lens is a 28 to 200mm zoom lens with aperture of f:3.5 - f:5.6. What this means is that at 28mm it has a maximum aperture of f:3.5. When you zoom out to 200mm, the maximum aperture is now f:5.6. This is perfectly normal for a zoom lens of this type.
Typical situation in Shutter preferred mode. I have the shutter set at 1/125 of a second and the f:stop is f:3.5. When I zoom out to 200mm, the shutter speed is still 1/125 of a second, but the f:stop is now f:5.6 and I have decreased exposure (darkened the picture) by almost 2 full f: stops.
Realizing this, I think that "turning off the camera" really isn't a fix. The problem is realizing that the aperture will change as the focal length of the lens changes (as you ZOOM in or out on your subject). Try the aperture preferred mode and you should note that the shutter speed will change as you zoom in and out.
Most important, pay attention to shutter and f:stop info in your viewfinder. FYI : Zoom lenses that hold aperture at all ranges cost several thousand dollars, and canon makes them - they weigh a ton.
