Access router settings

You can access the router settings provided you know the administrator password. Go to Start->Run. type telnet 198.162.1.1 and press enter. A black window will open asking ID. admin Passwd - default passwd is admin unless you have changed it. And if both are correct, then you get a menu. Follow it.

I have a BT 2-wire hub with networked printer.

First thing, Does your printer have a wireless facility built in? If not it has to be connected to the hub with ethernet.
Normally setting up a wireless printer involves using cables until the set-up is complete. It's nothing to do with the router but all to do with the printer.
Best thing is to go through the manual.

2wire 2701hgv-w router

This would be based on the ISP you have signed up in NZ. If the ISP has MAC address identification, then you would have to clone the MAC address on your router. Else, you would have to just run the set up in the router. That should take care of setting up the internet. I would suggest to call the ISP and ask them if they can help you .
As for wireless, i dont think any change is needed.
Thanks

How can I connect my printer directly to the router and share it

Without knowing the models of your equipment I can just give you some general instructions.

First your printer needs to have an Ethernet port. If it does then you can just connect it to your router/switch with an Ethernet cable.

If you don't want to manually configure network settings on every device on you LAN then you need to turn on one (and only one) DHCP server on your LAN. This is the thing that hands out the network configuration to all your your devices on the LAN.

Your router / switch will probably have a dhcp server built in. Find the manual for your router / switch to learn how to enable and configure it.

When you turn your printer on it should get it's network settings from the dhcp server on your switch / router automatically.

You might want to hard code the mac address for your printer on your DHCP server so your printer always gets the same IP number.

You then need to configure a connection on each of your pc's to connect to the print queue on your printer. You will be able to follow the instructions that came with your printer for this.

I know there is a lot of jargon here. There are a few concepts to learn but once you have those sorted out you can apply the same principles to many networking situations.

Just google the terms you don't understand to get a better understanding of what it means and why you need it.

Media disconnected

You got the old AT&T sh.tty router.  You need to upgrade to the newer model AT&T 2701 HG-B, which is a modem router all in one nice package.  Don't buy it from the stores, Amazon, or AT&T cause they are greedy and want too fu.k.n much.  Go on e-bay and you can get one of these for around $20-40 with shipping. Sell your sh.tty router on Craigs List or e-bay to recoup some of your costs.

How do i hook the router up

The router has several connections on the back, there's the Power (goes to AC Adapter), an Input RJ45 that is connected by RJ45 cable to the Cable/DSL modem, and several other connectors that can be connected to different computer Network Inputs. That's about it.

Had to replace 2Wire gateway modem, set up the new

This may be a silly question, but have you input the WEP key for this new router into your laptop? It will be printed on the router with the serial number and such. It is the middle set, if I remember correctly. View all available networks with the laptop and pick yours. It should ask for the key. Input your new key and such, and you should be good as gold.

Hope this helps!

I need to find a iso for the install disk

There's no such thing as an install disk for a router. A router does not need to be installed as it is a computer in its own right and is running the moment you connect power to it. All a router needs is the log-in and password of the broadband account. Something that can usually be got by rooting through the papers that came from your ISP.

Can you hook router to router to expand connection

Yes you can but you must connect the router you want add as a secondary one to the computer without it being connected to the network and make changes to it. These vary from model to model.

A better option is to add a "switch" these are cheap devices that are trully just plug in and forget. plug one into your router and then just plug the rest into the switch.
They are available in a large amount of combinations from simple 4 port to 48 port or more

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Network_switch

some of the info on here may be a little technical but it gives you the idea.

http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/category/category_slc.asp?Recs=10&Nav=|c:2786|&Sort=4

will give you an idea on prices but if you go with a switch or HUB as they are sometimes called then always get one with more ports that you need and if you can get one that covers gigabit speeds that will be more useful in the future.

If you still want to do the router thing then lookup the router model you want to use along with the words "use as switch" or "use as hub"

Changed from AT&T to a cable company for DSL. Trying to set up

You need to "fool" your cable box into thinking that the wireless router is the computer. This just means that the modem is locking into the first ip address it can get... it tends to block out all others. Here's how to remedy and allow everything to get access...

1 Shut off computers, routers, everything.
2. Turn on your wireless router FIRST... leave everything else off until you see it's completely booted.
3. Then with the cable connected to the modem/cable box and the router, turn on the cable box/modem and let it cycle up. This should allow the cable modem to "find" the wifi ip address as the main ip.
After that, turn on any other routers, and the computers...
This should allow you access to the net by any of your computers because the wifi router should give all the other comptuers and routers on the system inddividual ip addresses and all should be well...
Give it a try and let me know!

How do i configure my ip address manually for 2nd

Have you tried simply running the Network Connection Wizard from control panel? Here is a link to a basic guide. I'm not sure I understand whether there's an issue with the connecting computer or if you want to set up a host/client shared connection. If the latter see here. Does this apply to your situation?
Take a look at this post, and also see the FAQ sections of the same site for endless help.
You can also access 2wire tech support here.
If you think there may be some corruption in the 2nd computer, run chkdsk according to instructions here and here.
You might also have a look in the Device Manager and make sure the network adapter is working properly. It will show an exclamation point or question mark if it's having problems.
Your connection is behind the 2wire firewall, which should be turned on. If you mean your system firewall, OK for now...

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!
